Single Vaccines - unlicensed by DOH

Have looked into several places to obtain single vacs for my son with vacs intervals ranging from 2 weeks to 12 weeks, would like to hear anyones views on this. Would also appreciate views on the subject of single vacs being unliscensed. My thoughts are that they are safe but are unliscensed by the DOH as they obviously have to support the MMR.

You said it in one - only unlicensed as the DOH want everyone to have MMR. I had the same single vaccines as a kid that my dd had privatly a couple of years ago.

The DOH don't like single vaccines as they are concerned that kids could catch something in between jabs. But if you're quick off the mark kids can start having them done at 12months/ DD had all hers finished b4 she would have been allowed mmr (18months)

it all comes down to £ imo.

dd1 had MMR. now dd2 is due MMR but i am going to go for singles. this is because she has a dairy/egg allergy and i think she is altogether more sensitive. i don't like the idea of her having all of it pumped into her in one go.

what are you doing about the new pneumococcal/meningitis one? do they really need it? why are they only doing under 2's? If it was so necessary wouldn't they vaccinate all children?

My hv said that some unlicensed vacs were unsafe, they'd been made in Eastern Europe and were found to be ineffective - I saw this on the news as well. I opted for MMR but a bit later.

twickersmum, my ds had his pnem. men. vac early. There is a mumsnetter who lost her dd to this terrible disease, and I have a friend who lost her ds to meningitis. Anything you can do to prevent this, you should. I'm going to pay for dd2 to get hers done privately as she is over two. The reason all children don't get this jab is cost. Pnem. men kills 1 child a week and leaves many others seriously ill or with permanent damage.

i heard that pneu men peaks at 6-9 months, do you know if that's true?

don't get me wrong, i am not anti-vaccination at all. mine are all bang up to date. i just worry about the load on dd2 as she obviously has a sensitive system/imbalance of some sort.

I think it's under-twos that are at risk. My ds had it at the same time as his 5-in-1. This is one jab you can't miss IMO.

binkacat - what was the interval between your jabs to get them all in before 18 mnths. My son will be 13 months 4/1/07 and first jab 14/1/07 iyo what would you see as a safe interval for each jab.

I've had my little boy vaccinated with the single vaccines for MMR. These are obtained by a british company from the french and american market - they are however made by the same companies that make all of the other vaccines that you see in use in this country it is just that they aren't licensed by doh/nice for England.
