2 weeks postpartum with high bp and now got a sore calf....

...am 99% sure I'm being totally paranoid, but as I've had my calves poked and felt in hospital several times (when they've been worried about my bp) DVTs are on my mind.
I DID walk further today than I have since dd2 was born, and I did have backache too, so its probably just unaccustomed exercise. No redness, swelling or heat - just tender/sore to touch and to flex muscle especially.
Any advice?? Should I be worried? I'm off to bed, but will be up at some unearthly hour feeding so will find any wisdom then

Oh, and if it makes a difference, bp is actually more sensible today - almost normal (am on high dose betablockers for a few weeks, they must be kicking in).

Elibean, I haven't actually got any experience of this and it could well be that you've just over exerted youself on the exercise front. However, dvt is not something to mess with and is you are at all worried you MUST get it checked out. Sorry , not much help, but maybe someone will come along soon who has some experience of this .

Call NHS direct, you've got too much to lose

please get checked out.......DVT is a concern during pregnancy and post , esp after c.s......

we have a strong family history of DVT , and i had this when pregnant with DD........you absolutely must have DVT ruled out..it can become very serious...

i know you have had a crappy time , and been so poorly , but this must be checked out

my mum had a DVT, no redness, swelling etc...just a pain in her calf..........treated quickly with the appropriate drugs......my sister has had two DVTs, i had a suspected one,,,and had to go on low dose aspirin ....

don;t want to worry you, i know you want to enjoy DD....but please do see someone today, if possible.......xxxx

got to A & E right away! I have had 2 DVTs and i didn't have the classic symptoms but it hurt like hell to flex the muscle - please go ... if it is nothing then you can be reassured ... treatment is nothing to be scared of if it is a DVT ... please let us know how you get on.

i am not trying to freak you out BTW but DVT can be treated quickly and easily but can turn serious. Most hospitals do a really easy and quick blood test called a D-Dimers ... please go.

eli-- TM is my sister ! hugs....you'll be ok...might well be nothing !x

Elibean · 10/12/2006 14:08

Ok, I hear you - thanks! I shall try and get hold of someone, at the very least see gp first thing tomorrow. I'm less worried today, because it doen'st hurt as much plus doens't hurt at all when I'm lying down (ie no strain on my back) - really does feel muscular.
But then again, I don't know what a dvt would feel like - so am not going to try and diagnose myself. I appreciate hearing your experiences - Lulu and sister, sounds like you went through the mill with dvts - will let you know what happens!

What's the news Elibean?

Elibean · 13/12/2006 13:37

All well, thanks for asking kitty...looks like it was just a sore muscle from unaccustomed walking and a lopsided back (hence only sore on one side)

Had so many worried drs with my bp saga that I started worrying about everything - but as you all said, better safe!

That's a relief, make sure you take it easy. You've only just had a baby
