am trying to put vaseline on it ocassionally (he needs it to be something that doesn't ahve anything that will sting in it).

does any one have a miraculous cure (short of getting him to stop licking his upper lip due to having a snotty cold)?

Blistex relief cream ,the one in the blue and white tube is excellent. Its better than vaseline because it has healing ingredients in it

I've tried everything with dd1 and vaseline is the only thing that doesn't make it worse.

is it on his lip or just above it?

if it is just above his lip (so on the skin), we found putting Eucerin on it (from the chemist, not over the counter, it'll be with the stuff like E45) really worked well.

if it his lip, try some of the stuff in the yellow little pot (from independent chemists). I cannot remember the name of it! aarrggh, will see if I can find mine.

had to leave the cinema just now as he was howling with the pain of his lip....it is mainly the skin above his lip that is chapped beyond belief. I'll get eucerin tomorrow.....I think that me brandishing the blistex around has put the fear in him as he has stopped crying about it now....i've put blistex on my own lips and it is quite stingy isn't it? feels cold and slightly burny....I think he would have an absolute meltdown if I were to use it on him!!!

thanks everyone.

Green People Baby Salve has always been good for us in stingy situations, too - you can get it in Waitrose or on the net.

Bio ooil or Liz Earles Super balm?

Peridot30 · 10/12/2006 21:33

I use Aloe vera vaseline.

fiiiivemadmarchhaaaares · 10/12/2006 21:37

sudocrem here, always does the trick i find

another vaseline fan here. I find if out it on DS just before he goes to sleep, he's ornmally fine in the morning.

However, I can remember hating it when I was his age!

NappiesGalooooooooooooria · 10/12/2006 22:02

dr greenfingers nose and cheek soother. got mine in waitrose. havnt actually used it yet, but looks lovely

vaseline good tho for reasons stated, ie doesnt hurt/sting, doesnt taste of anything, seals the skin to stop moisture escaping and allow healing underneath. needs reapplying often, coz he'll wipe/lick it off...

sudocrem is miracle stuff, which my kids object to furiously, but if you get it on him at night just before he goes to sleep (or just after if youre relly cunning/wily) it heals just about anything overnight. then use the vaseline in the AM as preventative, which it is much better at than healing tbh

soph - hope youre keeping well!

foxinsocks · 12/12/2006 19:12

sophable, realised today the stuff I use on their face is eumobase not eucerin (though similar stuff). Hope his lip is better now!

MerryPiffmas · 12/12/2006 19:13

chamomile tea
