Just discovered dd1 has nits. I know that yr supposed to conditioner and nit comb them out- is this every night or can I get away with once every 2 days?
Also, am I going to have to be boil washing her clothes and bedding etc, or do they die when they're out of the hair? Am feeling quite out of my depth!

wash everything at 60, clean everywhere including car seat. Comb through hair until all gone & then everyday. Check the whole family. Anything you can't wash put aside for 10 days.

Good luck

I'd comb through every few nights for a fortnight. This should ensure the breeding cycle is broken. They're 'orrible little critters aren't they.

Thanks,

no doubt it won't be the last time we get them, but what a laborious fecking grind of a bore all this combing is.

they can't live more than a minute or so away from the warmth of the human head. So not transmitted via linens or pillows.

It's bedbugs that live in bedding forever unless washed at 60 (blech)

my dd had a letter home from school about nits this week, I keep looking and scratching my head whenever I think about it, but I am worried I won't see them, are they easy to spot? dd has dark hair, i usually tie it up in bunches then braid it , but can someone here describe what they look like, how big, do the eggs look very obvious?

flack - they can survive for quite a while without being on a head! you really do need to wash things at 60.

Nits are rife at dd's school. I got rid of them just before summer hols by comb and conditioner every two days and dry pick also. This does the trick. She has had them about 3 times since and have followed the same method on all three of us and it gets rid each time. Have never had to do the wash everything at 60.
