COVERED in insect bites - how do i quell them?

I got bitten really badly last night by an unidentified insect - must have more than 50 bites all over - even got 3 or 4 on my face! They are very itchy red bumps and I look like I have some sort of hideous pox.

What can I do to quell the itching? Lou33 suggests Eurax cream but I can't get that until tomorrow

r u sure that they are insect bites not an allergy?

I just came back from holiday with over 50 mosi bites so i completely and utterly understand how you must be going mad, Tea Tree Oil was the best for quickly taking the itch out. Ledum, Apis or Hypericum are the best homeopathic remedies if you can get hold of them. Or Aloe Vera Lotion was ok but by far and best was the Tea Tree Oil !!!

if its an allergy, herbalist told me drinking organic camomile tea is good substitute for antihistimine. In Sunday papers a repellent by bioforce called Neet? was recommended

i'm sure it's insect bites, yes. Thank you so much for the tips - I'll get some tea tree oil tomorrow. Tried lavender oil but it didn't help much. I've got hydrocortisone cream and some piriton to help me sleep. I feel like a total wimp!

and i'm going to have a camomile bath and drink some camomile tea at bedtime too!

If you get an Aloe Vera plant you can break a leaf end off (about 1 inch) and rub the sap on the itches. Works on DH who is absolutely irresistible to any little biting creatures (must smell sexy to insects....!)

piriton knocked me out last night and i slept soundly

the bites seem to have passed the poisonous stage today - still look like i have a raging pox, but at least they're not driving me crazy

what would i do without MN?! thanks one and all X

I have one of these wonderful little gadgets that you can get in Boots that takes all the itch away. Can't remember what they're called but it's about 2" long and dark green with a black button on the end.

When you click the button it lets out a tiny electrical current on the bite. You need to click about 5 times and what happens is the current disperses the histamine that causes the itch.

They are about £8 but worth every penny.

never heard of em! must get one

Tea tree oil is safe to use in pregnancy isn't it? I have loads of bites from sitting in my back garden. I usually get loads on my legs this time of year, itch them to distraction then have lovely purple scars all summer.

IKWYM freddiecat

my legs and tops of feet look absolutely terrible now!
