PURPLE LEGGED BABY?

hi, my baby's legs went purple yesterday so i freaked out and took her to A&E. by the time she was seen, her legs had returned to normal colour and they didn't know what it was.

i'm thinking it could be her circulation. but wondered if anyone else had a similar experience? please help. thanks

How old is she? What 'colouring' does she have - is she very fair? Could she have been cold?

hi, thanks, she's 13wks, quite dark hair, but light skin. i'd taken her out in the car, and brought her in from the car but it was really cold and rainy, but she had thick trousers on and socks and a rug! maybe i need to wrap her up better, its hard to know if you are underheating or overheating them!

my DS2s legs used to go purple when he was in the middle of one of his raging, screaming fits!! Was she upset at the time?

yes!!! i'd brought her in from the car to introduce her to people at my old workplace, and she was a bit overwhelmed by all the attention and crying lots. it was only when she'd calmed down i noticed it. thanks.

Were the straps on the car seat too tight? I remember going arouns town carrying ds2 in a sling for a few hours. I sat down to feed him and when I took him out of the sling his legs were very, purple and he even had a broken vein type thing . I massaged his legs for a bit and they pimked up again quite quickly.

that's a good idea, she hates the car seat, so i'll check the straps, maybe that's why she hates it so much. thanks alot

I think this can happen with fairer skinned babies - you did the right thing going to A&E, but if they gave her the all clear try not to worry about it unless it's something that happens regulary (sp?)
