I have been thinking sbout having one of these fitted and am a bit worried by the amount of stuff I am reading on here.

However, am wondering if this might not be representative of all the Mirena users (eg only the ones having probs post about it).

So if you use the Mirena coil, could you just post quickly to say good or bad, and I can get a better idea of what the true picture is.

No more AF would be a huge relief for me too, how we've all suffered

Thank-you both, any more anyone?

cmotdibbler · 08/09/2007 21:24

I had my first one for 4 years before having it removed to conceive - abs no problems or any bleeding at all in that time. Had my second fitted 12 weeks after the birth of DS and again no trouble.
Had mine fitted at the family planning clinic as they do loads, and the doctors there reckon they are the best things going (and both had then in themselves)

bbrilliant! love mine - no periods. AM interested to see lots of people saying decreased sex drive - I can certainly agree with this. I wonder if this is an effect of the coil or of tiredness etc?

BellaLasagne · 09/09/2007 08:25

As quite a few seem to have them just after having a baby it's probably tiredness. If I decide to go for it I'll let you know as my youngest is 8 yrs old so I would notice if there was a diference.

i am having mine removed after a year tomorrow. Can't wait. I am usually a very positive perosn but have felt increasingly angry and down and panicky all year, sex drive has completely vanished, have gained weight despite taking up swimming 4 times a week, have really sore breasts, thrush about once every two months... Need I go on! I just generally feel completely joyless and numb which i have never experienced before. Kids, husband, work etc all fine so nothing major to feel low about. Can only put it down to this horrible coil. Can't wait to feel like me again and thanks Mumsnet for making me feel like I am not going mad.

lulumama · 10/09/2007 20:35

excellent for me

light periods after around 6 months

was just about to order a mooncup too !!

no periods really to speak of after a year

no weight gain, or pmt, or other problems

am very very happy with it

fakeblonde · 10/09/2007 20:42

perfect for 4 years.
No weight gain
No pmt which i did have for years prev.
No periods after a year.

Now
No sex drive
recurrent thrush
Chin hair !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PSCMUM · 10/09/2007 21:37

o. my. god. I aso have chin hair, have never ever put this down to coil, but actually, has only come since coil, and now someone else on mn has said it. bloody hell. i'm making an appoitnemtn to get rid of it right now.

Raised the issue of the no sex drive due to coil theory with dh last night. I said I want it out. He said but then we will be back to playing conception russian roulette! which may not be ideal.

the pill - gave me migraines.
the coil - a beard, and no sex drive.
condoms - never used properly, always led to...
the morning after pill.
perhaps, is this VERY radical tho, the snip for dh??????

BellaLasagne · 11/09/2007 12:13

Well, for comparison's sake, I'm not on anything at the moment, and don't have a massive sex drive either which I put down to being a busy working mum. I just about feel like it once a month when the CM kicks in Put it this way, DH is usually knackered too as he works away a lot, and he generally wants it more than me (but that's normal isn't it?!)

As for chin hair, I get that too. Had most of it removed with electrolysis and the lovely lady who did it said that it's quite common to suddenly notice more as you get older (I was about 35 at the time).

Capers · 12/09/2007 12:31

Very Bad. Removed after three months. A further month and it would have been off to the funny-farm for me.
(See other threads for my less-flipant replies).

PSCMUM · 13/09/2007 18:06

Capers - how long did it take yuou to return to normal? I too am approaching funny farm status, as is poor sex starved dh

Capers · 14/09/2007 10:20

I felt much better within a week. (Though I had a migraine attack probably triggered by the hormone withdrawal). Tiredness and weird emptiness were the first to go. (I would run a checklist - need: food, drink, chocolate, wine, sex, exercise, sleep, company, peace? Was in desperate need of something, but with no idea what.) Sense of humour and sense of proportion then filtered back over the coming weeks and my body slowly started to deflate, breasts are no longer tender, still have pmt but it no longer lasts all month.

Sound like you and I are in the same contraceptive minefield!
Good luck with your 'defusal'. (Having it taken out is a doddle).

57 yrs started HRT 7 months ago evorel conti 50/170 , had a bad bleed, and GP referred me to gynecologist, did ultrasound scan and wants to do hyteroscopy and biopsy and insert mirena coil , and saying l can go back on HRT, again if all well, I'm unsure if l should go with the coil or if there's an alternative way to protect the womb, also unsure if I'll go back on HRT, any advice would be appreciated.
