I've had niggling ear, throat, cold for couple if weeks but since fri throat has been getting steadily worse and I've just looked and one side now has yellow spots that weren't there yesterday. Is it true GP won't prescribe antibiotics? I've been really ill in past with tonsillitis and they have so would really like to get them before it gets to stage I can't stand up :-(

They will prescribe penicillin if they think it's bacterial so make an appt. Hope you feel better soon - it is such a horrible thing to get, I have been floored by it twice now.

Yes, gp for antibiotics if you have yellow patches - that's pus, thus bacterial. Hope you feel better soon!

I would go to GP. It might be bacterial and that can make you really ill.

I will never forget struggling on with tonsillitis for nearly six weeks and being fobbed off with "oh it is just viral".
After I had lost 10 pounds as I could only eat things like jelly and yogurt, the GP caved in and prescribed penicillin.

I continued to get worse and was really ill with fever and vomiting.
Finally they agreed to take a swab and discovered I had penicillin resistant strep B. After 3 days on the correct antibiotic I began to recover.

Just because the majority of people have a virus doesn't mean that GPs should just dismiss everyone.

I remember phoning my husband one time after he'd told me Neurofen and I'd be fine to tell him he had to come home as I couldn't stand never mind sort 2 toddlers and even GP said till she got it she never realised how bad it gets.
No joy on automated service so fingers crossed I get appt in morning, for now I'm sucking ice cubes!

I remember lying on the kitchen floor vomiting and shaking while my 2 year old and 7 month old climbed over me. I never want to feel that ill again.
You have my sympathy OP.

I don't even remember how I got to the GP. I think I managed to get a friend to come and sit with the DC. The rest is a blur.

Really shouldn't laugh but know what you mean I was and still are a bit stressey over who looked after my children but after hubby went back to work I offered them to anyone and eternally grateful to my friend who rescued me for two days!
