So, I am 23 and was diagnosed with PCOS many years ago around age 18 when I had not ever had a period. I had to take tablets to even start my periods.. I am now in a happy relashionship and would like a child, but I am unsure of whats going on, I would prefer to conceive naturally (although I understand that can be an issue with PCOS) If possible I would like to avoid hospitals and being put on any meds to make it happen. I rarely have a period, sometimes only twice a year, but I bought an ovulation kit and found that I do ovulate even without having a period, I have never gotten pregnant. I'm just wondering if the ovulation kits are rubbish, also weather I can still get pregnant without the peridos if I am ovulating.. I'm so confused lol! Help anyone?

Ovulation kits and PCOS are very uneasy bedfellows. These kits read LH: if there is an excess of LH to start with (this excess hormone level is common with PCOS) then it will give you false positive results. I would ditch the kit forthwith.

I think these kits state on the box as well that they should not be used if PCOS is present.

It is also possible to have periods without actually ovulating; as you are currently only having one or two bleeds a year then it is very likely that you are currently not ovulating at all.

I would speak to your GP about the previous PCOS diagnosis and go from there.
