Bleeding from my bottom

NickNacks · 23/10/2015 22:33

Ok I admit I considered name changing but there's no reason why this should be embarrassing.

For the past 2 weeks or so I have bleed from my bottom after having a poo. It's not blood in the poo but more when I wipe, and it's quite a lot. I've had a feel and fairly sure it's not piles but any other suggestions? Tonight it has been stinging a bit and feels a little itchy. Dh says 'go to the doctor' but he says that about everything!!

Any thoughts? Cream suggestions? I'm thinking sudocrem for now.

Op the chanced are it isn't but it does make sense to have it checked out.

I've had the examination mentioned upthread. It was fine really and the gp saw an internal pile which a bit of cream and attention to diet soon sorted out.

Be brave and go!

Monkeyinshoes · 25/10/2015 11:18

You might not need any internal examination. I didn't. Doc could easily see the fissure without doing anything. 5 secs of looking at my arse and I had reassurance that it was nothing more serious and 2 mins later I was leaving the docs with a prescription for stuff to help it heal.

It took a while to heal and I still worry about it coming back. Though mine started after a bad stomach bug (food poisoned by undercooked chicken) so it wasn't my only issue (lots of tummy probs till I sorted diet and started probiotics).

Book an appointment with a female doc if that helps and go.

DeathstarDame · 25/10/2015 11:33

OP, please try not to worry. I've been in this situation myself twice and when given a lot of information (though very helpful) started to panic.

If the blood is fresh and bright red then it's more than likely nearer to your bottom than your bowel and could be internal hemorrhoids or an anal fissure as people have mentioned. Have you had a little look in the mirror yourself? You may be able to see yourself what's causing it. Does it happen every time you go? My GP explained that when passing a particularly hard or textured stool this can cause irritation and bleeding, as can pushing when you need to go.

For your own peace of mind I would recommend seeing your GP, they can give you some advice and cream if necessary. I know myself that it is embarrassing but they see these kinds of things and worse day in day out! I hope you manage to get it sorted soon ??

AutumnshadesofGold · 25/10/2015 11:48

Nicknack it is so so unlikely to be a tumour. But blood from your bottom should always be checked out. Most likely explanations are internal pikes or fissure as pp's have mentioned.

Surely the 5 mins of embarrassment (for you, the GP won't bat an eyelid) would be a better alternative than days/weeks of worrying & asking strangers on MN for reassurance Blush

NickNacks · 25/10/2015 16:52

Ok so today when I had a BM, no blood, this is a good sign right? If it continues I will try and see my (luckily female) GP but it will be Friday at the earliest. I just can't get time off work before then.

I had piles, skin tags AND a fissure. I have had more people looking at/up my bum than I care to remember.

But really - it isn't so bad. In fact it is far more dignified than having a smear - as you lay on your side rather than legs akimbo.

If no bleeding now it may be that your fissure/pile has resolved itself - but I would keep a close eye on things.

Belle89 · 26/10/2015 20:30

Had similar problems, doctors have seen it all before. They can use a small camera. And give a cream to heal any fissures/piles. The stress of worrying will only make it worse.

LadyB49 · 26/10/2015 21:45

Just go to GP. End of .......
Get checked and sorted. - in the meantime, Preparation H will reduce any inflammation and itching.
Embarrassment is only minor and momentary.

icklekid · 27/10/2015 06:42

If it helps first gp did an internal examination which was agony gave me some cream, 2 weeks later no change so went back saw more experienced gp who didn't have to do anything 1 look and knew it was a fissure. Correct cream meant no pain or bleeding within days!

SofiaAmes · 27/10/2015 06:49

Probably piles, but as everyone else has said, you MUST have it checked out by a doctor. I don't want to scare you, but I lost a very good friend to colon cancer a few years ago. She was just a few years younger than the age when they start doing a regular colonoscopy and she put off going to the doctor even though she was having some worrying symptoms for 6-8 months before she finally did go to the doctor, but then the tumor was the size of a grapefruit and it had spread too much to save her.

Mrsmorton · 27/10/2015 22:35

iwantgin I seem to have developed a skin tag. It's so fucking sore, what was done with yours and dos they give you any advice re diet etc to help it resolve?
I think we MNers should agree not to name change for bum health threads, doing so just reinforces the not wanting to go to the GP thing. I don't want to go to the GP but I promise I will

iwantgin · 28/10/2015 09:31

I had more than one, and had them removed a couple of years ago. It was under a General Anaesthetic on day surgery ward. The surgeon did miss one - I think there was perhaps too much to cut off allat once -but they were happy for me to go back a few months later and did the same again.

Painful healing for a few days- which was to be expected- but now I have a perfect bottom.

Lifeoverboard · 07/11/2015 06:53

Hi NickNacks
This will probably freak you out but if it makes you go to the doctor then that is my aim Smile

I had bleeding, along with many other IBS kind of symptoms, and i took ages to go thinking they would just fob me off saying it was IBS. Which they did. For months and months. I finally paid for a private colonoscopy. I PAID THEM TO LOOK UP MY BUM Grin it is bowel cancer. Its not terminal, as far as I know!! So I am in treatment and it really is fine. BUT GET CHECKED. GET CHECKED GET CHECKED GET CHECKED.

confusedandemployed · 07/11/2015 07:09

Honestly OP. You're an adult and this is your health Angry If you haven't already then go and see your bloody GP. Listen to Life overboard and all the other posters.

I lost my mum, aunt and gran to gastro-intestinal cancers. I now have regular screening colonoscopies, as does my DSis. It's quite unpleasant but nowhere near as unpleasant as mum dying, or the thought that I might leave DD without a mum if I didn't have them.
