Normal T4 and TSH. Can any tell me what this means please?

Do you have the exact figures with the reference ranges? Without that, it's only going to be guesswork.

There are a couple of possibilities that immediately come to mind. One is secondary hypothyroidism, where TSH looks good (under 2) but both FT4 and FT3 are low in range, or poor conversion, where TSH is good, possibly even low, FT4 is high in range and FT3 is low in range.

Either way your GP may not know too much about either of these.

Thanks Mrs , I've attached the results with reference range. Last time it was tested it was T4 that was low and everything else within range. I will speak to my Doctor next week but wondered if these results show anything glaringly obvious to an experienced thyroid sufferer. I know Vit D is a problem but that's gone up from 16.3 so is going in the right direction.

Are you on any meds?

Are you on thyroid meds, and if so, what and how much?

That's all

So you have a 'normal' TSH, FT4 in the bottom half of the reference range and FT3 below range.

Have a google for secondary hypothyroidism and then go back and see your doc. You may need to print something off for him.

Didn't mean to,post twice above by the way. Last time I looked I couldn't see the first one.

Thanks again. Does this mean the Doctor will prescribe thyroid meds?

if secondary hypothyroidism is suspected, they should refer you to an endocrinologist, although ultimately the treatment would be the same as primary hypothyroidism ie thyroxine in the first instance.

Okay, thanks Mrs T.
