I have no idea - how do you find out?

expatinscotland · 05/12/2006 09:45

can't be bothered w/scheduling another appointment just now.

WonderCod · 05/12/2006 09:45

Mercy · 05/12/2006 09:46

My GP told me I'm at the high end of the normal range - and he wants to prescribe statins soon but I'm not too keen tbh.

WonderCod · 05/12/2006 09:47

dh was 7
his gp told himt o eat better to therefore avoid havign statins

Dh is on meds for his cholesterol - tried to reduce it by diet but it simply wasn't shifting. The GP was impressed that he tried though, and he did manage to bring it down a little (but not enough). Both his parents had high cholesterol though and apparently if you have inherited high chol then meds are the only way to go.

Mercy · 05/12/2006 09:51

Miaou, I think that's why I have to take statins (my dad had very high cholesterol levels), plus I can't afford to lose any weight and I don't have much saturated fat in my diet anyway.

4.2

HuwEdwards · 05/12/2006 09:54

was told I am ok

HuwEdwards · 05/12/2006 09:55

bizarrely I love butter, cheese, cream etc..

expatinscotland · 05/12/2006 09:57

My dad eats crap - he loves sausages, butter, meats, etc. although he is normal weight.

He struggles to control his hypertension, even w/mulitple meds.

His cholesterol level, amazingly, is totally normal.

foxinsocks · 05/12/2006 09:58

think a lot is hereditary innit

you need Uwila on here - I seem to remember she has an incredibly high cholesterol level

Miaou · 05/12/2006 10:00

Doesn't seem fair does it? Dh eats very healthily, doesn't drink or smoke, struggles with his weight to be fair but has lost loads since we moved house - yet still his cholesterol levels are dangerously high without meds. Must be such a PITA.

zippitippitoes · 05/12/2006 10:01

I had some blood tests recently and passed them all..so presumably normal whatever that is or possibly acceptable I don't know

expatinscotland · 05/12/2006 10:03

This happens to a lot of people w/hypertension, too, Miaou. They're a healthy weight, don't smoke, drink moderately, exercise. And still have hypertension.

Again, it can have a strong heritable component.

Miaou · 05/12/2006 10:06

Is hypertension high blood pressure, expat? Dh has that too though fortunately he is able to keep it under control without meds just now.

Miaou · 05/12/2006 16:39

Dh just told me that his went as high as 9 before treatment - eek!!
