Mooncup woes!

Beckywood1989 · 16/10/2015 09:07

So I bought a mooncup yesterday after a mortifying tampon leak which led to me finding out more about tampons and now I never want to use them again!
Anyway, having bought my mooncup, I managed to get it in ok and it worked. It's comfortable, leak free and feels so clean! I'm converted!
I'm less keen on taking it out. The first time took ages so I figured I'll get better. Last night took a while but I managed and thought I'd cracked the technique. Come this morning I couldn't get it out for love nor money. I tried bearing down and it just didn't shift. I rooted around for ages and make myself quite sore. Eventually my DH persuaded me that he didn't mind and he managed to fish it out. Oh how dignified I felt sprawled on the bathroom floor while he dug in my noonie! (We don't have children yet so it really was new to him!)
Why is it so hard? I haven't trimmed the stem but it seems really far up and too slippery to grab. I also suffer from Rheumatoid arthritis so my grip isn't as firm as it used to be.
Am I putting it in too far? I thought it was lower when I put it back in the morning but I checked earlier and its disappeared into the depths again.
I really want to love it, it seems the answer to so many problems! Advice please!

I find I have to bear down and stick a finger along side it to break the seal, and then sort of pull it out.

It doesn't work if you just try to pull the stalk.

They make a seal, so the trick is to press the edge and break the seal.

I do break the seal, when I finally managed to get it down, it comes quite easily. It's just getting and keeping hold of the damn thing that seems impossible

Sounds like you're putting it in too far! It should sit much lower than tampons do, which seems a bit weird when you first start using it. When you remove a menstrual cup you should be grabbing the base of the cup to allow you to break the seal, rather than trying to drag it out by the stem.

Hope that you manage to get to grips with using it - menstrual cups are amazing if they work well for you. Smile

OP I had the same problem. My mooncup has since sat sadly in its bag for 5 years Blush
But then I am squeamish about putting things up there, never really used tampons either. I'm going to start CSP once my periods return after DS!

Cross posts due to slow typing on phone!

I suspect I am putting it too high but it just seems to disappear, stalk and all! I now can't get it out to try and put it lower

When I first got mine I struggled to get it out and thought I'd have to go to hospital or something (my face was bright red and I went all hot where I was so scared!) but it got much easier really quickly once I figured out how low was enough, just needed a bit of practice (practise? I've only just learnt that there are 2 spellings).

Anyway, long story short I love it now, life changer.

Beckywood1989 · 16/10/2015 10:19

I hope it gets easier! My problem is I get extremely frustrated and then I cry and I imagine I tense up which makes the whole thing worse.
I'm a bit worried that I'm damaging myself with all the rooting around. I get bloody fingers (TMI!) and I don't know if that's the mooncup or whether I've scratched myself. The mooncup itself doesn't leak

I finally got it out, my poor lady bits are not happy! I definitely think it was too high. I put it in until it opened and there was stem still sticking out so maybe it's low enough down now?

I had to trim quite a bit of the stem off mine so that it wasn't sticking out and irritating me, but I wasn't brave enough to cut off a lot at once so trimmed it a little bit at a time - it took a while to get it right!
