DP needs a filling or possibly extraction of one back molar, and filling or extraction of an upper, front molar.

Roughly how much are we looking at for this?

I think the goig rate for the NHS is about £40 per filling/extraction.

Got no chance of finding an NHS dentist....

QV, if it's not NHS then I would get a quote before the appt!

An extraction ime, can be anything form 40gbp up. The filling, depending on size & material around 80gbp+

Hmm - thanks....DP wants them pulled - i think he shold have them filled.

You are right, it is better to have them filled. having them extracted will bring it's own problems.

Although cost wise, if you are trying to keep it down, extracting is usually cheaper.

1 root canal and four fillings cost me £650 !!!!. I imagine extractions are cheaper than fillings.

MerryChristmasfromQV · 04/12/2006 13:33

Well, both are already previously filled teeth. The filling has come right out of the back molar and the root was originally taken out before it was filled last time.

The other seems to have a huge chip in the back - the tooth is almost completely 'filled'.

I had a molar refilled recently with a white filling. Cost £53 privately

If it is alreadt heavily filled & root canal treated then the dentist may suggest a crown.

Root treated teeth are more brittle, so tend to break easily & fillings therefore become 'unstuck' for want of a better word.

Crowning back teeth is easy, nor cheap!

mrsratty · 04/12/2006 13:37

I left it for a few weeks after my filing fell out. I thought I had had a root canal on that tooth aready but appently not. I didn't want to go to the dentist but after the few weeks I was in agony and my face was swollen. I hopr this doesn'y happen to your DP and he gets it sorted very soon.

sandcastlesforanaussiexmas · 04/12/2006 13:38

isn't always easy, nor cheap!

MerryChristmasfromQV · 04/12/2006 13:40

I'm afraid he is at the point of 'agony'. He just keeps saying we cant afford for him to get it fixed.

He has been rinsing out with corsodyl regularly which helps, but he needs it dealing with asap really.

Not good. I hope he gets it sorted soon, otherwise he will have further problems!
