Ds, 2, has yet another horrible fluey cold and cough. He woke up yesterday and today with his eyes all sticky with goo, and one of his eyes is a bit bloodshot on one side. Just wondering if the pharmacy would have anything or if a trip to docs is needed. Any advice?

My DS always gets gooey eyes when he's got a really bad cold (the full works cold thing) It has helped if I've bathed the eye with cooled boiled water and it's gone within the day.
On the other hand however, it could be conjunctivitus, in which case it depends if it's bacterial or the other one. One they will give drops for, the other the docs will send you home and tell you to keep it clean with cooled boiled water.
It's up to you really. I'd see if my DS felt up to going out to the docs, if not, keep him in and keep cleaning it.
HTH!

The pharmacy will give a free prescription of eye drops or ointment, they ask a few questiond and fill in a small form. I find it easier to use eye drops rather that ointment but it's still difficult. My children have this freuently infact three of us have it right now. Hope you get it sorted soon.

It is possible to get eye drops for conjunctivitis from the chemist these days without a perscription from the GP. Bloodshot gooey eyes sounds awfully like conjunctivitus.

Certainly take him to the chemist in the first instance and if they cannot assist the GP as well.

it was one eye yesterday and both this morning. I did clean the one eye with coo boiled water yesterday. He hates me touching them, i'll have to wrestle him now to clean them. Will try the pharmacy. the poor thing has goo streaming from nose and eyes! Thanks.

It's conjunctivitis!! Ds has it now. The pharmacist has to see the child to confirm diagnosis but the give the stuff there and then, no faffing around with appointments, doctors etc.
It's world war 3 here to get drops into ds' eyes!!

probably. It is going to be well nigh impossible trying to get drops in this one's eyes.....
