Is there anyone here who knows about Endovascular Coiling?

Has anyone had this done or know anyone who has had it done?

My Mum had a Stroke in January and when they did the MRI scan they found an aneurysm in her brain. Even though the Stroke was in January she only had the MRI at the end of March due to the fact that every time they tried to take her for a scan she flipped out, kicking and screaming. She didn't get the results of the scan till later on (maybe April I think - it all seems so long ago now, I can't remember). She had a chat with the surgeon at her appointment and he said that it was very important that she had the coiling surgery, if she doesn't and the aneurysm ruptures she will die.

So, all being well, the Op will go ahead on October 29th. They did say that it would be done over the summer but it hasn't and we've been waiting and waiting. I think I've been trying to put it to the back of my mind but now the date has been given I'm very frightened for her.

Sorry for rambling.

I'm a regular but I've name changed, btw. God knows why as I doubt anyone I know is on here but you never know! Smile

My DH had this after a brain haemorrhage last Nov. He was anaesthetised, they went in through a small nick in the groin which didn't even need a stitch after and has been fine since. He was in for two weeks but that was more because his aneurysm had burst.

I think compared to the two lots of open bowel surgery I've had in the last year, he had by far the better deal!

Thank you so much for your reply! That makes me less worried. DH said yesterday that he'd met someone who had had it done and they are also fine.

I'm glad that your DH is ok.

I hope you're ok after your surgery. Flowers

Yes we're both great now thanks and working full time again. Best wishes for your mum Flowers

Thank you Flowers. Glad you're both well.

My mum is desperate to go back to work but I doubt that she'll be able to as her stroke has damaged her right hand and her speech. She's been left with Apraxia so finds concentrating difficult but on the whole she's doing well and she's getting better slowly, so she lives in hope. Smile

Ah, bugger! Name change fail! Never mind - at least it was nothing embarrassing! Grin
