Spotting and abdominal pain between periods

Just to start; I have been to the gp and had a swab and referred for ultrasound.

I had a late termination for medical reasons in Jan. Since then my cycles and periods have been all over the place. We've recently started ttc again so I've been tracking my cycles more.

I have abdominal discomfort, nothing so bad I need painkillers for but its very obvious, not easily ignore iyswim, through most of my cycle. I also have spotting usually a few days before fertile period and also during my luteal phase (which is very short at around 9 days)

I went to the gp expecting to be fobbed off as we've not conceived after 6 months. However, she did an internal and swabs, said my right ovary seems tender and referred for ultrasound. She mentioned possibly cysts or polyps which I understand are nothing to worry about.

However, I have just been dr googling! Stupid I know but someone please reassure me that they have had something similar that has not been cancer!

I have spotting from time to time and pain, I had a scan which showed up a few small cysts ( not big enough for surgery ).

Ok, thank you. I know logically it's probably either nothing or a cyst of polyp. I think after loosing dd2 earlier this year I now automatically assume the worst.

I have a strange feeling there is reason we've not conceived, like there is something wrong, a niggle feeling. I'm very non 'woo' but I had the same feeling with dd2, I just knew something wasn't right.

These sound like the symptoms I had when I had polyps in my womb.

Sounds like ovulation pain. I can have it a week either side of ovulation. Spotting is so normal too. I sometimes spot around a week after my period stops, for 4-7 days and sometimes right around ovulation (often 3 weeks after my last period)

My experience (3 pregnancies) is that my cycle changes after each pregnancy and I would imagine it'd change after a non viable pregnancy too. It also changes as I age. I'm 37.

I have a dermoid cyst which nobody seems worried about and my latest internal scan was in May. I'm absolutely fine and normal.

I also notice my cycle gets weirder and wackier every time I start thinking about another baby. I don't think it actually does but if you're paying close attention you notice far more than the rest of the time.

I really wouldn't worry.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure it's not ovulation pain as I get that too now but it feels different. My ovulation pain is definitely on one side or the other and is sharper.

It basically seems my bits are a bit fucked. Still, it seems that cysts or polyps are a probable which is fine. Doc did say if it was either of these things it wouldn't effect my fertility.

I also bled small amounts in both pregnancies after sex which they put down to cervical erosion but doc mentioned maybe a polyp just inside my cervix so maybe it's that.

Thank you for the non scary stories. I am stepping away from dr google now. Should get swab results tmrw pm.

Well I've got my abdominal scan tmrw! That was a really quick appointment (the sonographer was very clear that they weren't having me in so quickly because there is a problem but because they're quite quiet atm!)

I get my test results after 3 so this time tmrw I'll have a much better idea what, if anything, is wrong.

I'm sure you'll be fine.

Chocqueen99 · 13/10/2015 17:12

Did you find out? ?

KittyandTeal · 13/10/2015 19:36

Kind of. The sonographer wasn't particularly helpful. She mumbled something about cysts but would answer yes or no when I asked if I have any.

So did say she saw a fibroid which might explain the spotting and pains. She also said my right ovary is squashed right up against my uterine wall which would definitely explain the pain I get there.

No answers for my short luteal phase but I wasn't expecting that anyway.

I'm glad it's obviously nothing major. However, with a short luteal phase and a fibroid it may be that we don't get our bfp for number 3. I think I'm ok with that, dd1 seems ok growing up an only
