Husband's back 'clicked' yesterday, lots of pain-advice?

My husband was bending down in the kitchen yesterday when his lower back (small of his back) 'clicked' and caused a great deal of pain. It was a strong muscular pain. That was lunchtime. Since then it's been like the muscles are stiff and very painful. For example standing up is painful.

He says the click happened then it felt like the muscles went into spasm.

Still very sore and stiff today. Will it pass? Would you advise seeing te doctor? Ay ideas what could've happened? Thanks in advance.

(He cycles to work every day, wearing heavy rucksack, don't think this helps.....it's quite often sore/achy in his lower back if that helps)

I would see the Dr, as they can prescribe a stronger pain killer, it doesn't sound like an emergency case though if he can still get about and it isn't getting worse. Keep moving gently and try heat pack or ice pack. If heat helps you can buy a stick on heat patch that lasts for up to 12 hrs.

it will pass. Ive had it several times and on one occasion had to spend two hours on the floor before I could get up.

Ive got degenerative discs so years of back pain. Best thing I ever did was to start doing a little bit of Pilates/yoga every day. Just ten mins. I saw a specialist back pain pilates instructor who showed me what exercises to do.

And think about your back all the time. So squat down rather than bend, etc. and get panniers for the bike!

I get this loads of times.Currently suffering now. This time I ended up inthe hall with my nose in dss smelly shoe.

It will ease enough to move, and you generally need to rest totally for a day or so. Then it starts to ease up a bit. You do need a strong painkiller though

My advice would be to see GP and also physio. You will have to pay for the latter.
