Getting thrush once/twice a month

The title really, this has been going on throughout my last pregnancy, but has been really bad since having DD2 in April.

I have been given pessaries, creams, fluconazole, but it clears and then comes back.

I started taking Acidophilus capsules and Pau D'Arco capsules three weeks ago, I heard this could help.

It is really effecting my sex life, I just worry that I'll get thrush whenever I have sex. my partner has to take fluconazole every time I get it too.

I made the mistake of getting a bath instead of a shower, which I think is what set this round of thrush off. I didn't use anything in it, just water.

I actually had an allergic reaction to fluconazole, despite taking it many times in the past year. So that's no longer a treatment option for me.

Has anyone else suffered with chronic thrush? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated, it's making me miserable.

Cotton knickers & Tea tree oil diluted on a tampon or pad worked for me. None of the conventional treatments helped.

Urgh, it's miserable! Mine is definitely hormonally-related., it's more likely to start just before/after my period. I'm 43 & getting a bit peri-menopausal too, which doesn't help, as I just feel dry/itchy down there most of the time. I often can't tell if I have it or not, or whether things are just dry/irritated. Yuk.

My last GP gave me a prescription-only dose of antibiotics, stronger than anything available OTC & it really worked.

Just psyching myself up to see GP again; I feel a bit silly saying that I'm not sure whether I have it or not.

" It turned out that I have Type 2 Diabetes and this was causing the thrush. I don't want to be alarmist but it might be worth getting your GP to test you??"

I was going to suggest this as well. Last year I had a bout of thrush, closely followed by a nasty abscess in my groin. The first thing the GP did was check for diabetes. You do need to rule this out.

That's why I want to see the GP having had high glucose readings previously convinced this is the cause. But the correlation with low iron is interesting. May be something to look at.

Antibiotics don't work for thrush. Candida is not a bacteria, it's a yeast.

Antibiotics can make thrush worse as the bacterial population keeps the yeast one under control.

Wow thanks for all the replies and tips, I take Acidophilus and Pau D'Arco from Holland & Barrett, also a multivitamin but it was only a cheap one, does it matter what brand you take?

I am completely changing my diet as of yesterday, cutting out yeast and sugars, including dairy. I researched and found the candida diet so going to follow this.

Unfortunately I definitely can't take Fluconazole, I had anaphylaxis. I'm going to request a long term course of the pessaries, I think the Candida could be resistant now?

I woke up yesterday with a sore mouth again, ulcers and red sores all over it, my tongue is agony. I can't eat solid food, even this porridge is hurting.

Going to my gp tomorrow as all this doesn't feel right, last time my mouth kicked off he did blood tests which all came back clear.

Hope we all get sorted with this, it really does effect your quality of life!

I do feel sorry for you I have had a rough ride with this. I actually feel reasonably comfortable tonight but I know it will flare up again so off to docs tomorrow. I am really concerned it may be diabetes behind this

Have you got the mirena coil? I had thrush all the time when I had the mirena, had it taken out not had it since.

Google it, loads of people say the same.

chelle792 · 11/10/2015 19:16

I had thrush constantly for about eight years. Nothing would cure it until I came off the pill. Had it once in the last five years!

Minime85 · 14/10/2015 22:02

Gynodakrin or something like that as a pessary only think that clears it up for me know. I too get it a lot. I shower straight after sex too to help

docpeppa · 21/10/2015 11:18

Just an update, I started taking caprylic acid last week and I got thrush the day I started taking it. Could that be candida die off? I have been on the candida diet for nearly two weeks now.
Went to my gp yesterday who has finally referred me onto a specialist, so hopefully if I carry on with the diet, supplements and get some answers from a specialist I might get this under control.
I have a copper coil, but had a few in the past with no problems.

I went back to the GP today because the pessary didn't work last week. He has prescribed me pessaries every night for two weeks, just wondering if anyone has done this and did it work?

Just worried it's a lot of medication
