Hypochondria moment bare with me

My heart has felt v.poundy recently - you can see my chest moving as my heart beats and I feel breathless a fair bit at rest.

I took my bp recently and it was 115/80 so pretty normal although the bottom number seems high to me? When I have felt that my heart is pounding my pulse is usually about 90 which again seems a bit fast? Oh and I did my resps just now and they are 22 which is high no?

(am not totally obsessed with measuring myself am student nurse and did teaching session on bp etc recently!)

Its nothing isn't it, but it just feels odd? I have it on and off and I have asked my Dr but he said it is nothing.

I am overweight could this cause it? I certainly don't feel like this when I do excercise though which is why I am worried.

Sounds like anxiety to me.

I was going to say the same thing. Defo anxiety or some kind of panic disorder.

If you're a student nurse, please know that a BP of 120/80 is textbook normal, also a resp rate of 22 rpm is fine too. Do you feel these symptoms mostly at night? After coffee or alcohol? Generally speaking, palpitations ( the ability to feel your heart beating) are perfectly harmless and normal, you're probably just more aware of it at the mo, it could be anxiety... how far through your training are you?

Also, if you're still worried, the British Heart Foundation produce a leaflet on heart palpitations, you could probably download it from their website, if you are still worried, please see your GP. You could have an ECG to put your mind at rest, the practice nurse will be able to do it for you, it's non-invasive and only takes 2 mins. Even if your heart is fine (which I'm sure it is) your GP may pick up if you are anxious and get the appropriate help.

smurfgirl I know where youre coming from I'm SN too and have a number of panic attacks about things wrong menningitis/brain tumour/bone mets etc etc you know what i mean.

No such thing as a normal BP, what is normal for you? but no 80 is not that high, unless your normal BP is about 90/50 which mine normally is. Resps are normal at 22.

Stop worrying
