Are biopsies to test for breast cancer normally cancerous? Appointment today.

I have an appointment today for a breast ultrasound and I am so sure they will do a biopsy and then I will have to wait all over again.

Are biopsies normally cancer when they come back? I am so worried.

Flowers for you LaFlottes. I hope the appointment went well.

Not necessarily. Depends on what the ultrasound shows. I had an ultrasound which showed something that looks non suspicious but I had biopsy anyway. It was a fatty lump.

Nope, definitely not.
I've had three at different times, none showed cancer.

Lonecatwithkitten · 01/10/2015 16:19

Sometimes they are inconclusive and have to be repeated.

Thank you all so much. I had worked myself into a right old state. DH is away with work and I didn't really want to worry him.

So I was taken in 40 mins late for my appointment which gave me more time to panic! However nothing was found, I just have lumpy bumpy breasts according to the radiographer who was really lovely.

So, not very attractive sounding, but a HUGE sigh of relief. I'm actually feeling a bit foolish now but it all seemed overwhelming earlier and I had googled which is never good.

Thanks again.

I also found a lump, had ultrasound, biopsy etc. Was told it was a cyst but like you I was petrified to start with. While I agree with the idea that prevention & awareness are very important, the speed with which my GP, hospital etc swung into action and some of the language they used definitely did nothing to calm my nerves!

Glad it went well and you have nothing to worry about OP!! Great result!
