Weleda tablets for impetigo - question...

Groveregg · 01/12/2006 09:57

Has anyone got any experience of Weleda homeopathic tablets? If so, how big are they? Would a 14-month-old be able to swallow them without a big fuss, or would I find them spat out on the floor a bit later?

I have just ordered them (hepar sulph and graphites) after reading about Sophable's cure for impetigo (after 5 courses of antibiotics for ds since September) but then started thinking... how will I give them to him?

Oh that's good to know, thanks. I thought that with homeopathic things you weren't meant to interfere with them at all or mix them with anything. But if it's what I've got to do to get him to take them then so be it.

Did it take a long time for it to clear up, and is it really true that it doesn't come back? I have been in such despair over the antibiotics - ds changes personality completely while he's on them, diarrhoea for days on end and off his food and so unhappy. We only finished the last course on Wednesday so I give it a week before the sores aare back...

I can't comment on the use of homeopathy for impetigo specifically, however:

1 - You do know they're not supposed to "swallow" the tablets, don't you? you're meant to simply suck on them until they dissolve or hold them in your mouth for a few minutes then chew them up. They should taste nice so this isn't a problem.

2- If this doesn't work you can get homeopathic remedies in forms more suitable for babies. You can get ANY remedy in ANY potency in granules or soft tablets. This is a better option than mixing them with juice as that can change their effectiveness. Let me know if you want to know where to get them.

HappyMerryMellowma · 01/12/2006 16:43

Yes magnolia that would be great. I think I will keep a supply and ours have almost ran out. I

did try to have ds sit it on his tounge but tbh I think it is the age he is at I say black, he says white and on it goes.

Sugarmagnolia · 01/12/2006 16:57

You can order them from Freemans Homeopathic Pharmacy

If you don't want to use the online order form just phone them (about to close now but open on Saturday 9-1). Granules are usually used for babies & toddlers. You tip some granules into the cap and then pour them onto his tongue. It's usually easiest if you get them to lie down. Although to be honest if the problem is an obsterperous toddler I'm not sure they will be any better! And beware if he tries to knock them out of your hand, they go everywhere!

HappyMellowmas · 01/12/2006 17:22

Hmmm well his behaviour is getting a little better and I persuaded him to take anti-biotics last time with the bribe of a stawberry sweet afterwards si think I will get some anyway.

Thanks very much.

Groveregg · 01/12/2006 18:39

Wow sugarmagnolia, Freemans look amazing and I am really peeved that my Weleda order is now on the way and I can't cancel it. Just a thought, I wonder if I can crush the Weleda tablets in a pestle and mortar and pop them on his tongue for the same effect?

Hmm that sounds promising, maybe he just might keep them in his mouth. I will give it a try when the time comes...

Happy to help

am I the only person who's concerned at self-medicating a baby?

I'm sorry but IF homeopathy works it works because it has some type of active ingredient .. This doesn't make it a benign approach

If you want to use homeopathic treatments for your children then I would STRONGLY recommend you consult a homeopath and NOT an internet chatroom

this is really really disturbing!

Sugarmagnolia · 02/12/2006 08:23

Twiglett - I understand your concerns, and by all means, consult a homeopath. Despite the fact that homeopathy has been proven time and again to be completely safe for babies, pregnant women, animals etc, I would never try to persuade someone to use it who wasn't comfortable with the idea in the first place and would not try to recommend remedies to other people over the internet except in simple first-aid or self-limiting conditions.

Groveregg · 02/12/2006 10:24

No need for the agressive tone Twiglett.

Yes I probably should go to a homeopath - to be honest it hadn't even occurred to me, but with Sophable (and Mellowma) swearing by this remedy on here on several threads, I thought it had to be worth a try. No matter what the outcome, it has got to be kinder - and in my view more responsible - than pinning my screaming child to the ground 4 times a day to force the antibiotics down him, then having him suffering with diarrhoea and being off his food and generally miserable for a week - only for the impetigo to return the following week. Enough bad feeling about all that already.

Twiglett · 02/12/2006 16:12

That wasn't aggressive

would you like to see aggressive?

Rumpel · 02/12/2006 16:16

Hi - I've used weleda homepathic tabs before and they are bigger and more like the consistency of paracetamol tabs. Nelsons' and Boots' are much smaller and more sugary and, therefore, quicker to dissolve.

Groveregg · 02/12/2006 19:43

Thanks for that Rumpel, I think I shall have a look when they arrive and decide what to do next.

Have you had success with these?
