Dentist wishing to extract teeth which are not giving me any trouble

While attending a routine checkup 3 years ago my dentist said I needed some teeth out. He had previously removed my 4 back teeth saying" These are no use to you so it does not matter if they go"
I have not been to the dentist for 3 years as I do not want any more teeth out. or rather I think there needs to be some discussion about how I will eat etc before just extracting a person's teeth like that.

I feel I am now just going to the dentist to have teeth extracted

Did he pin you down whilst he did it? Confused

I find it quite hard to believe that he extracted 4 teeth - which would have taken sometime without seeking your consent. Did this happen in the UK?

However, if you're not happy, find another dentist. At your first appointment, before you even sit down, say: "just to let you know, I'm here for a check up so I don't consent to any treatment (eg extractions) being carried out today. Can you check my teeth and then let me know if you think I need any treatment and why. I can then go away and think about it"

If the new dentist is practising in the UK - they will have no problem with that - that's how they work

You could also contact your old dentist and get a copy of your old notes and ask your new dentist about exactly what was noted about the appointment where the extractions took place and what consent was given

The teeth at the very back were not all taken out at the same time. A reason was given for the first one and then at subsequent appointments he just seemed to say as they do not assist much with chewing etc then it is not so important if they go kind of thing. I do not have good teeth due to loads of antibiotics when I was very young.
I do need a filling so I will make an appointment for this . Then I will ask for reasons for extractions and point out that the tooth he wanted to extract 3 years ago is still ok.

It doesn't sound like he has your confidence, time to shop around a little and get a new one. Why settle for someone you mistrust?
