Got fibroids etc and don't want to go down the path of trying and failing everything under the sun only to have to need a hysterectomy anyway. Although I read about Wheatgrass on an old thread here and that sounded interesting.

So I'm considering getting a MIP hysterectomy done. Have had my kids, not planning any more.

I have read about these MIP hysterectomy procedures where they don't open the abdomen and where the healing time is quicker. Also where they leave both ovaries and cervix.

Has anyone had one who can tell me a little bit about it?

My own mum had a hysterectomy in her late 40s and it was a huge operation and long recovery. But that was 30 years ago.

Thanks in advance.

I had mine 6 years ago, don't have my cervix tho. Super quick recovery. Mine was vaginal, took about four hours but that was unusual apparently. Had the drain and padding taken out the following morning and went home a few hours later. light duties for a week and then back to work 5 weeks after that. Took a good few months to stop feeling pains and twinges tho.

Thank you travertine. Was there any worry about prolapse after?

Nothing left to prolapse I think, Ovaries? to be honest it never occurred to me. I was worried about hormones and a premature menopause (I had been on depo for the past decade) and I think that may be creeping in. I had my girls, knew without a doubt i didn't want more children. Have never regretted it for a second.

Thanks. Its really helpful to know. I am due to talk to the doctor about it all tomorrow or Thursday so knowing this outcome is immensely helpful.

I had a laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH) in May 2014 and it was phenomenal. I retained my tubes and ovaries but they removed my cervix.

I felt really good after surgery and was up and walking the halls in the hospital within 2 hours of arriving in my room. I went home the next morning and was off work for 2.5 weeks. I healed very quickly and felt reasonably well a week after surgery.

You will have severe lifting restrictions - follow them to the letter! I am a legal assistant so have a relatively stationery job, but I was on modified duties for 6 months following surgery - just to be absolutely sure I healed properly.

Feel free to PM me if you wish. My LAVH was the best decision I ever made and I have never regretted it for a moment. And, it saved my life!

Annie. Thank you very much!
I don't lift much now. The kids are too old to be lifted and the cat is only 10 lbs and she can lump it.

You would be amazed how little is too much. After surgery, even your 10lb cat will be too heavy.

If you decide to go ahead with the hysterectomy, plan to be off your feet for a few weeks at least and on modified duties for a few months. Stock up on drinks, snacks and begin building your Netflix list now! Grin
