Don't know if it's normal Tillysmummy, but it's not just you. Mine have been agony since my dd was born, not even paracetamol seems to help. I wondered if hormonal contraceptives (pill, injection) were supposed to help calm them down a bit - think I read something somewhere. Anyone know anything about this?

Hi. It's perfectly safe to take the pill continuously so you don't have any periods (or, if get a bit of breakthrough bleeding, have a period once every three months (4 a year). It's fantastic! A period on the pill isn't a true period and your womb lining doesn't build up as it would if you weren't on the pill. The pill break was just devised by the inventor of the pill to 'reassure' women and make it feel more 'natural' - not for any medical reason. I also heard he was a Catholic scientist, who thought that if the pill gave the appearance of a normal menstrual cycle the Pope would be more likely to approve! I haven't had a period since my son was born because of b/f but before I conceived took the pill continuously (&got pregnant within three months of stopping at the age of 38). It's actually better for you because it is very protective against things like ovarian cancer & there is a theory it may even prolong fertility. Go see your doctor if you are worried, but I promise you this does work. No periods = no period pain. Hooray!

It is very common after having children that periods are more painful and heavy. Try specialist painkillers for period pain and also you can get tiny heap pads to put on your stomach which no one can tell that you're wearing, I find that bearable on the days that I have to work, and if at home, a hot water bottle works wonders with the tablets.
