dh has been going on about having a vasectomy since we conceived ds 2 years ago. Can't see it happening dh being a man iykwim . Haven't got a problem with him not wanting to do it but the 'I'll get round to it' and 'it's a smaller op for me (dh) than you (me)' is what get on my nerves. Either do it or shut up about it. However I'm digressing

Basically have come to conclusion that I'll probably want to have my tubes tied and would appreciate any input from people who have had it done to get the 'real' picture not the text book replies you get from the GP

TIA

Considered having tubes tied as my DH same as yours.

GP advised Implanon implant is a more effective contraceptive (high 90s% rather than low 90s% for tube-tying) plus is reversible.

Have had Implanon for 3 months and no bad symptoms yet (more info on FPA website but am useless at links so you'll have to google).

Hi. I was sterilized about 7/8 weeks ago now. It was really a simple operation. I was sleep for a day or two and sore for a few days, but other than that, I am perfectly fine - and sex is far better now I have no worries about pregnancy

I had a hard task getting the hospital to agree to me being sterilized, but I insisted and they cannot refuse. I was given a hard time as I am only 28 and they thought I was far too young.

Hope this helps

"GP advised Implanon implant is a more effective contraceptive (high 90s% rather than low 90s% for tube-tying) plus is reversible."

I'd like to see the GPs stats for that statement. The Implanon rep a regular caller with his bag of goodies and perks at a guess.

I had my tubes removed at my last section so totally different procedure and recovery to clips and tying. Sorry.

i was done nearly 5 yrs ago and haven't regretted it for one second

In and out in a day, back to normal 3 days later

MrsBojangles · 29/11/2006 18:11

sounds about the same recovery rate as from my last exploratory laparascopy

I hopefully won't have to convince them that it's ok for me to be sterilised... am 38 and have 2 lo's and if I should get pg again I'm gonna shoot myself. Valid point aren't they

yes about the same recovery time as when i had a lap as well

next 'problem' is that we'll be moving in February. Haven't checked with gp yet how long waiting list is locally but probably will have to wait till we have moved and get it sorted then.

i bet if you asked now it would be done by then

mamijacacalys · 30/11/2006 14:25

If I had decided to go for the sterilisation, it would have been the same timescale as lou33 says - within a few months and in/out in a day. Don't know exactly how long the waiting list is here (west Wales).

Sugarfree - Agree with your cynicism to some extent but surely non-invasive, reversible nature of the implant is better if you can accommodate low-dose hormones (like mini-pill)? If there was some medical reason that I couldn't have the implant (high BP, DVT etc), I would probably go for sterilisation, but firstly I would look at all available options to avoid a hospital procedure![coward emoticon]
