More Symptomatic Periods and Ovulation

My periods and ovulation have been odd for the last 6 months or so.

Right before my periods I get almost like early pregnancy symptoms. I get nauseous, have a belly ache, headache, feeling unwell generally. My tailbone hurts sometimes, but during ovulation/period it hurts all the time, and my back is sore, etc. Like my joints and muscles are more prone to injury, similar to during pregnancy. My emotions are more at the surface as well, and I'm not really depressed, but I feel kind of melancholy, especially during ovulation.

I also get ovulation cramps for 1-3 days.

The other strange thing is when I have my period it starts and is normal for 3 days, then stops completely for 12-48 hours, no spotting or anything, and then starts again normally for 1 day and then I get light bleeding/spotting and it ends.

This isn't normal for me and I'm not using any form of birth control.

Does anyone get like this, or know if it's normal? It's like all of my period and ovulation symptoms are amplified. Sorry for the long post, thanks for getting to the end. Smile

How old are you itsonlysubterfuge?

I am mid 40s now and this as you describe it, is what my cycle has been like for the past few years.

It has just changed in fact this past fortnight, to a cycle I'm currently trying to get my head around. 11 days long, light for the first 7, heavy as hell for the past 4.

I'm seeing a gyne tomorrow, and i'm expecting him to say "perimenopausal"

But I read on WebMD or similar that its hobsron's choice during these years, it can just be erratic, shorter, longer, heavier, lighter, inconsistent in every which way.

hope you find some other answers. Smile

Oh, I can't believe I forgot my age. I'm 28. I have thought about perimenopausal, but I thought I seem a little young for it yet.

I also have one child who is three, so I don't think it's anything postnatal.

Hmmm, I have very similar symptoms and saw my GP about it recently. I had a scan to check for ovarian cysts, but as the scan showed nothing abnormal, my GP advised that I try the mini pill and see if it helps. I'm still on the first month but did not have any ovulation pains so far and I'm possibly less emotional but difficult to say so far.

But....I'm 43...as you're considerably younger it could be the cysts I guess, but worth asking your GP. Sadly though, I think they are all quite normal symptoms!

I have been to the GP, as I've been having a multitude of symptoms. I am awaiting blood test results. He just thought my periods were strange, but didn't have anything else to add. I guess I'll just have to wait it out. I think it is pretty normal, just unfortunate and strange that they happened seemingly over night.

Maybe I really am just an old lady trapped inside what appears to be a young persons body, it certainly feels like it sometimes. Grin

I do hope itsonly that you're not calling those of us in early-mid 40s "old ladies"

I'm sure you're not.

itsonlysubterfuge · 15/09/2015 17:16

I just meant that I feel like an old lady, not any specific age. I don't generally think of people in their 40's as old.

it could well be due to an ovarian cyst.
