depends actually.
It can be side effect of a virus, some people tend towards certain illnesses when virus strikes
For instance dd gets chest infections/tonsillitis, ds gets ear infections.
So if it is one persons reaction to a virus, you could catch the virus but not the tonsilitis IYSWIM
But there is also bacterial tonsilitis, which is contagious, but that said, sitting in a room with someone isn't a danger or the whole world would have it right?

WideWebWitch · 29/11/2006 11:36

yes. I was told so when I had it last year

Dophus · 29/11/2006 11:36

My son has had it recently and I didn't get it. I get most of the nasty bugs though that he brings home.

I'm sure if you don't snog the kid (why it goes round teenagers like wildfire!) 'm sure you'll be fine!

anniebear · 29/11/2006 11:46

yes, just read that it can be past through coughing and sneezing!!

I can't really say to a 19month old that I am not giving her a cuddle today and please don't cough on me lol

Just read

All forms of tonsillitis, whether caused by bacteria or viruses, are contagious illnesses

not what we were told by virologist at the childrens hospital when we were there with dd annie.

Freckle · 29/11/2006 12:27

It's a virus which can be passed from person to person. However, it doesn't always affect everyone the same. Some might get tonsilitis, others might be affected in a different way.

As I'm suffering with it myself at the moment, I have every sympathy with your friend. If she wants company, could you not encourage her to join MN??

anniebear · 29/11/2006 13:02

shes not a pc user

Its her Birthday tomorrow, so I will give it a day, then go tomorrow

I have 2 children of my own, one with SN who has been so ill herself over the past 4 years, so I suppose I am a little bit more cautious of her catching anything

I had it earlier in the year - none of my family caught it off me (not sure where I got it from).
