Possible carpal tunnel

I have been referred for nerve tests as we're pretty sure I have carpal tunnel. Dr Google hasn't shed any light, will there be needles in this test? What exactly is the nerve test?

Thanks in advance.

Probably a nerve conduction/velocity study. For carpal tunnel, will involve electrodes on the skin (no needles) and timing how long it takes for an electrical signal to travel along a nerve. No needles when I had it done. It's not painful and only slightly uncomfortable.

Thank you. :) Uncomfortable is fine! Bizarrely, I am fine with self-injecting my meds but when someone else comes at me with a needles, I am less than thrilled.

Do you get the results there and then?

I don't think so, it was a long time ago though!

I asked in the middle of the test when I get the results and he responded immediately that one was severe and one extremely severe! Oops! Had surgery on each and problem solved, though the one hand coping through recovery was hard as a single parent. Worth it in the long run though.

I've had nerve conduction tests a few times, and each time they told me there and then what was going on.

The carpal tunnel tests are mildly uncomfortable, but no needles (and tbh, the ones done with needles only involve a very fine needle and are nowhere near as bad as they sound)
