Would you pay for private mammogram?

Hi all.

I found a lump in my left breast about two months ago. Referred to clinic and had a CT scan. I was told it was normal breast tissue but they would see me again in a month. Second CT scan, again told normal breast tissue and discharged. Would you pay for further tests privately, like a mammogram? The lump is still there. Opinions appreciated, thank you x

How old are you OP? Mammograms aren't much use in younger people. Was it definitely a ct scan, or could it have been ultrasound scans (which would be much more usual).

I am 40yrs and SORRY, it was ultrasound not CT!!! Idiot xx

I was 36 when I had my first mammogram.
We do a one stop clinic at the hospital. See the Dr, mammogram then ultrasound all in one visit. ( I work in radiology so knew mammographer doing my X-ray and the Dr doing my ultrasound..) it was debated over wether I was too young to have a mammogram done but decided to do it to be on safe side.

40 might well be a bit too young for a mammo to be useful - it's due to tissue density. Did they do any sort of biopsy or aspiration of the lump? Could they see the lump on the ultrasound?

If I were you, I'd go and discuss it all with your GP, because, although the breast clinic are obviously happy that you've nothing to worry about, you haven't been reassured. Perhaps a fuller discussion of your scan results and clinical examination would help. I wouldn't just spend money on an investigation which has a high chance of not proving or disproving anything for you.

Thanks all. No biopsy or aspiration just reassurance that it was 'breast tissue' but I'm not reassured. Think I will go back to GP xx
