Lost confidence in my GP, what can I Do?

I'll try and keep this short!

I've had some concerns about my GP for nearly 3 years but have hoped that things would improve. I've had another bad experience this week though and wondered if anyone had any advice.

The background is that I had an rta nearly 3 years ago, not my fault, was checked out at A&E and sent home. Felt awful for ages. I was sent to a physio to deal with the whiplash etc and she ended up writing a letter to my GP regarding her view that I'd sustained a couple of orthopedic injuries that hadn't been picked up at the hospital. I'd actually mentioned the pains to the GP prior to this letter but was told it was just whiplash. When I took the letter to the GP, it was read and then tossed onto the desk (ended up on the floor) and told that although it wasn't the done thing to ignore the advice of a fellow professional, in this instance they were going to. I was in agony and sent on my way.
Over the next 6 months I repeatedly asked the GP for help but they did nothing. At no time did they even examine me.
Due to the litigation process re the insurance, I had an MRI scan done 6.5 months after the accident which showed the injuries clearly. I had a slipped disc in my back and a dislocated shoulder, exactly what the physio had written in her letter to the GP.
I took the MRI report to the GP who actually referred me to the consultant. I got treatment after just over a year after the accident.
I've had lots of problems due to the delay in treatment and now have a lifelong back problem and almost total loss of use of the arm on the side of the dislocation despite numerous further ops.
I have a bit of a brain injury from the accident which she wont do anything about. Not a thing.

The recent situation is that I was admitted to A&E last weekend with a suspected stroke. It wasn't that but cluster headaches. Ive spoken to my GP about the cropping headaches at least 8 times in the last year. She's done nothing. The consultant in hospital told me that I needed to be referred to A neurologist, told me which meds to take and to go to hospital for oxygen until I get my own home supply. I had my friend and adult son with me who heard this too.
I saw my GP for a prescheduled appt two days after coming out of hospital and she's said that the consultant has NOT said it's cluster headaches, that I don't need oxygen as it wasn't effective, directed me not to take the meds I was told in hospital but just paracetamol, and prescribed betablockers which weren't even mentioned in hospital. So she's completely changed the diagnosis and treatment plan.

I rang the hospital when I came home and spoke o Sister in A&E who read out the letter the consultant had written to GP and it's clear that my GP has chosen to ignore the consultant! It was definitely that letter she read as I could see it.
Got hold of the consultant's Secretary who has done some digging, spoken to the consultant and told me to hang fire on the betablockers. The consultant is ringing me tomorrow to clarify and then my GP.

I was shocked that the GP just forged ahead in her way despite me telling her that that was contrary to the diagnosis and advice I got in hospital. She essentially called me a liarSad.

The Sister said I needed to go through PALS as it was pretty shocking.

What can, or should, I do? I don't feel any trust for my GP anymore.

Sorry it ended up so long.

Just register elsewhere.

EeyoresTail · 08/09/2015 18:55

I'd move GP's too.

Naoko · 08/09/2015 18:57

That's appalling. I'd complain formally so it doesn't happen to anyone else, and immediately change GPs myself.

tribpot · 08/09/2015 19:02

I would certainly move GPs, but I would also report this GP. She ignored the advice of a professional, who was categorically proven to be correct. She is now trying to ignore the request for a referral from the A&E consultant, which is just plain stupid.

You absolutely should go to your CCG's PALS, this GP is behaving in a very high-handed way and you are probably not the only one suffering as a result. I'm very sorry you've been through so much pain.

Thanks to you all. I'm expecting a call back from PALS tomorrow so will see what they say.
I'd like to think this is the beginning of the end of all of the troubles I've been having...keep your fingers crossed!
