Losing weight.....should I be concerned?

Over 3 years I lost 56lbs - by eating differently and basically recovering from ME

I plateaued (sp) about 2.5 yrs ago - but over the last 9-10 months I have lost inches - from a size 18 down to less than a 14...maybe 12

This means all my trousers are loose and I need to wear belts (no sooner do I buy trousers than they are too small)

I know losing weight is good - but should I be concerned? I weigh the same as I did in Feb but I am in much smaller clothes - it just seems a bit odd?

are you exercising mroe?

NotQuiteCockney · 28/11/2006 09:53

Do you feel well in yourself?

Any chance you're waking up in the night to pee, and being thirsty all the time (diabetes type II causes unexplained weight loss).

Down from an 18 to less than a 14 in 9-10 months is quite a lot, quite quickly. I'd get a check up.

Katymac · 28/11/2006 09:53

No - I am stressing more - but not significantly

NQC - no but I had a bladder repair about 3yrs ago - so I never get up in the night now

Maybe I should pop to the Dr's

stress can make you lose a lot of weight

are you eating properly?

Katymac · 28/11/2006 11:00

Yep - My appetite is smaller than it was (when I was size 22 ) but I still eat cereal for Breakfast and sandwich or beans on toast or soup for lunch and a proper tea

I used to eat 2 round of sandwichs, but I'm down to 1 now

I don't know

It sounds like you know why you're losing the weight, which is a good sign. Still, it's maybe a bit fat, might be worth talking to your GP.

NotQuiteCockney · 28/11/2006 11:01

A bit fast! Not a bit fat!

Have you had your thyroid checked recently? An over-active thyroid can cause sudden unexplained weight loss. Do you feel otherwise well?

Katymac · 28/11/2006 11:17

Yes - I feel better than I have done in years - even my IBS has calmed down

But I haven't had my thyroid checked

It seems odd to go to the dr to say I feel well & I'm losing weight

Do you have bags of energy?

Katymac · 28/11/2006 11:26

No - not bags but def more than before (considering the ME)

Unexplained weight loss should be investigated, though, even if you do feel otherwise well. Diabetes can cause it as well as thyroid problems, and both are easy to treat.

Dophus · 28/11/2006 11:42

Definitly worth checking if you're not dieting. One of the reasons you pay your taxes!. Thyroid problem give bags of energy (verging on manic) and weight loss.
