Teeth clenching facial pressure/pain nti-tss

Hello. I have not had a great year & I have had facial pain/pressure/tingling on both sides of my face. I have had an MRI for my brain & there doesn't seem to be a problem with a nerve. Have seen a maxillio facial person who said possible teeth clenching/TMD & had some physio. Only 3 sessions. Seeing a new maxilliofacial consultant for another chance of getting some relief. Has anyone had anything similar? Has anyone using a nti-tss or a sleep clench inhibitor.
I am going through the menopause and I'm on estrogen. I've been on it a week but seem to be aching everywhere.

I have TMJD and use a bite guard at night. I've been using it for nearly a year and I notice the difference if I don't use it for a few days. The difference in the size of my jaw muscle is also amazing because I have gone from it being around 2 finger widths to 1 and a bit. I'm glad it's helping because otherwise it will be botox then surgery.

Hello. I went to see a hypnotherapist & I go the next 4 weeks to try & stop clenching at night. Hopeful?

I use a small bite thing the dentist made for the front teeth, mine is minor but has caused headaches and constant nausea which is the pressure of the nerves, aching jaw is exhausting. Sucking my tongue and gums is a problem with snoring.

I have a continual appointment every 6 weeks with the chiropractic which has helped enormously.

May be worth considering some kind of yoga, exercise regime. Mine was better when I was focused on to exhaust the body. Def think it stems from my anxiety.

Hi Peter,

Just came here to post about something similar.

I have atypical facial pain and tmj. I get all kinds of sensations and pain that goes from moderate to pretty pretty awful.

My Tmj has just caused me to crack a tooth and i'm at my wits end!!

I find hot and cold compresses helpful, I use some natural muscle rubs (there's a badger balm that's for muscles that really helps) and if I can get DH to, a good back and shoulder rub.

I'm not sure what to do in the long term. I try and manage stress and have a night card.

Anyhow, I feel your pain. Will be interested how your hypno goes/went - please let us know Flowers

How are ye finding the mouth guard at night? My dentist made me one and I am trying awfully hard to get used to it but I am removing it middle of night! Its giving me a strange sensation when breathing through nose and resulting in mouth breathing .....

Mine is fine. It does make me snore. Mine doesn't go right to the back teeth, though my last one did. Apparently this helps with bite? I don't really know.

Is yours hard or soft? I had a hard one before, which may be the reason I have some cracked teeth, as it worked as a splint, so it had one big thick flat surface. It was horrid!

Find this helpful for achey jaw/neck. www.badgerbalm.com/p-442-sore-joint-rub.aspx

Mine is very soft and yes it goes right to the back teeth. Was yours custom made? I am finding it rather high up along gum line, a bit irritating so I will mention this the next time.I also find I am gathering salvia in it, I suppose that's normal. On a good note, it does relax jaw ( if my freaky self could leave it in !)

I use a bite guard at night to help ease my tmj issues. It's a soft one for the lower jaw and I'm getting on quite well with it. I used to have a hard upper one but hated it, it reminded me of my brace and didn't really help (I used to bite down on it making things worse). My dentist recommended the lower jaw one and said it helps in 95% of cases and that the hard top ones are out of favour now.

What have you tried to reduce grinding at night? You have my sympathy as mine is fairly minor and still horrendous.

clarencebean · 17/09/2015 15:05

Hi! Yes mine was custom made. Just ask next time, I'm sure they'll be something else you could try, or a way they could trim it or something?

Does anyone have any tips for reducing grinding. I'm having a lot of trouble with it at the mo. I just wrote another thread about it, but on reflection it is very long and moany.
