They've been dry and sore for weeks. Nothing is budging it. I've tried lip salves, antiseptics, camomile, witch hazel, Blistex moisturiser, Vaseline moisturiser, nothing works.

I used to get it years ago when I was stressed, during exams etc. The only thing that shifted it was hydrocortisone cream but according to the chemist apparently I'm not allowed to put that on my face now!

I look like I've smeared lip liner round my gob. Hmm

DD swears by Burts Bees .Anything with alcohol or lanolin makes her's worse

puffylovett · 01/09/2015 00:04

I love burst bees. I would also take some b vitamins, deficiency can make things worse. And the tannins in tea can be quite drying so deffo drink more water.

Snow fire! It's this dark green waxy stick that smells awful (smells like a bonfire) but clears up dry skin in a day or two! Don't think you're supposed to use it on your face but I have for dry lips in the past!!!

Constantly chapped lips are usually a sign of something else.....especially in Summer. So make sure you're eating a good diet, not spraying strong perfumes near your face and that you're getting enough sleep because being low can really effect your skin.

Your list doesn't mention plan in Vaseline and as someone who has eczema on their lips unless I apply regular par Vaseline, I know how amazing it is for sore, chapped lips.

Just apply it every half an hour or so (as soon as you start to feel them dry out and keep on with it. You will notice a difference and they'll be more supple quite quickly.

Using the other products you mention could be making them worse. They are all perfumed....even the Vaseline moisturiser. You need something inert. So either Vaseline or Cetraben.

I feel your pain! I nearly always have red/dry skin above my upper lip and very dry lips - have multiple pots of stuff in bag, car and around the house so I'm always slapping it on Grin

Coconut oil - organic, cold-pressed, available in most places now, definitely on Amazon but lots of good pharmacies/health-food shops will have it

Pure Potions Skin Salvation Cream. Available from their website or also in some good pharmacies. Developed by a mum whose child has eczema. Very good.

Also, HC 2.5% ointment will help if it's really bad. I sometimes think you need a short dose of stronger stuff to whack it on it's head, get the skin back on a "normal" level, then treat regularly with one of the above. If used sparingly and not all the time, it's fine. (I've been using for over 30 yrs as I have eczema, and can't see that skin is thinning.

I have the exact same problem OP! Constant dry lips, really sore and cracked, spreads round the mouth! I use nipple cream as mentioned as well as maybelline baby lips- I don't like Vaseline just makes them feel dryer but greasy at the same time! Blistex and Carmex etc 'feel' as though they're working but lips seem very dry again soon after! To be honest I'm yet to find anything that's amazing. I use hydrocortisone every now and then when they're really bad, it does clear it up a little. I know I probably shouldn't but sometimes it's the only thing that helps- and the GP originally prescribed it because they're that bad. As always, prevention is better than cure so I try to keep them well moisturised at absolutely all times. If I slip for a few days they get worse!

The Blisteze stuff doesn't appear to be doing much yet. Like Ceri said it relieves the dryness for a little while but that's all.

Might have to try something else today.

It's not so much the lips as the edges. The actual lips are fine, I just look like I'm wearing lip liner. It's all dry and tight.

If you know that hydrocortisone works then buy it and use it! Don't tell the pharmacist what it's for... As long as you use it sparingly (thin layers) for a short course then it's fine.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 02/09/2015 13:17

Yeah I thought about that but they might recognise me! Grin

Maybe it's time to go to the GP.
