MMR/Single vax

Hi, My son will be 13 months in Jan and I will be having him vaccinated but am still desperately trying to make the decision between MMR and single vax (leaning more towards singles). Would value anyones thoughts/experiences on this matter and any recommendations for places to get single vax. Have info on one company called Healthchoice, has anybody heard of them/experienced them?

Both my DD1 3.1 and DD218mths have had the single jabs throught Choice heatlhcare. my youngest has got her last one in Jan. They were brilliant and run weekend clinics on sat/sun. There was no hanging around in and out in about 15mins, they also let your GP know when they had been done and all the details so they could log it on their own system. Would def use them for baby no3 too.

Uwilalalalalala · 27/11/2006 14:08

Where do you live? Have you looked at www.jabs.org.uk?

I opted for singles the day I heard the my cousins son was autistic. Is this paranoid? Perhaps. But, I'd rather be paranoid than sorry.

Also, I have not yet heard a convincing argument against singles. (except maybe the cost)

beansprout · 27/11/2006 14:10

There isn't a convincing argument against MMR, Wakefield did not establish a link but there's lots of information out there on this.
It really is worth looking into this, rather than go with what you have heard or think is true.

Uwilalalalalala · 27/11/2006 14:15

Maybe there is a link. Maybe there is not. One has not been proven, I'll give you that. But, I'm not going to be the case that proves it. I am about 99% convinced that MMR would not damage my children. But, I'd rather fork out £300 than take even a 1% chance.

lovelymoo · 27/11/2006 14:18

They don't have to be paid for all at once you pay for them as you have them 3mths apart. so its not forking out too much at once.

Tutter · 27/11/2006 14:20

my thinking was the same as uwila's

so we went to a place in sunbury

oooh what was it called

hang on it'll come to me

Tutter · 27/11/2006 14:22

direct remedies

beansprout · 27/11/2006 14:22

In what way are single vacs safer? Because they are not the MMR?

Uwilalalalalala · 27/11/2006 14:27

We will be taking DS to Direct Remedies in Sunbury as well. He's 18 months now, better get on the case.

Tutter · 27/11/2006 14:28

they were great uwila - we were in and out in 5 mins

and ds (also 18mo) got a sticker each time

Uwilalalalalala · 27/11/2006 14:38

Where do live, Tutter?

supermum44 · 27/11/2006 14:59

Hi,

We also used Direct Remedies (www.directremedies.com) and thought they were great. They ran a satellite clinic in Glasgow. Ds will have his mumps jag on Sunday.
I agree that MMR is probably safe in 99.9% of cases but was not willing to take the risk for the 0.1%. Frankly, I think £300 is a small price to pay for the peace of mind. Also I have not yet heard a convincing argument against singles, but there seem to be plenty of arguments against MMR.
Do whatever you feel comfortable with.

Tutter · 27/11/2006 16:34

uwila - i'm in kew

but moving away next week

Uwilalalalalala · 27/11/2006 16:36

I thought your name was familiar. You have been on the west london meet up thread. Can't remember. Where are you moving?

Linz2 · 27/11/2006 19:01

Hi tanyak - when you say "Choice Healthcare" is that the same as "Healthchoice"? ie. www.healthchoiceuk.co.uk/

Thanks!

lupo · 27/11/2006 21:45

choice healthcare is fab, clinics in croydon and harley street. def worth paying - a small price for peace of mind if you ask me

Linz2 · 06/12/2006 11:16

Have looked into several places to obtain single vacs for my son with vacs intervals ranging from 2 weeks to 12 weeks, would like to hear anyones views on this. Would also appreciate views on the subject of single vacs being unliscensed. My thoughts are that they are safe but are unliscensed by the DOH as they obviously have to support the MMR.
