Can I ask some advice here as I am v confused. I found eggs in dd's hair last Monday so kept her off school for the morning to treat by combing and headlice shampoo. Have been combing and checking since but found more eggs today. The thing is I can't find any headlice. Have just checked the Boots HL site which says that no matter how many eggs a child may have in their hair, unless you find a live louse, they do not have headlice. Then how do the eggs get there in the first place? Sorry if I'm being thick here. Any help welcomed. Have read old threads regarding treatments and will try them all , starting with combing every night.

Headlice are very clever at hiding - they mnove around when they see the comb coming. There proably is one somewhere - could it be jumping onto anyone else in the family after laying? Have you checked yourself - I always have to.

The louse may have climbed off or fell off but layed a loads of eggs before it vanished.
Just keep combing.
Have all the eggs gone now, if yes, then do her every 3/4 days, then you will be on top of things.

thanks for the replies. No, the nits are still there - I thought I had got them all but today in the school playground, in the bright sunshine, I found about half a dozen . I've just shampood myself and am waiting to comb and have bought enough stuff for dh and the boys. Have just been on the phone to dd's friends' mums to warn them to check their girls. Will keep combing for next few weeks and hope for the best.

If shes at school the best thing to do is, every time shes in the bath wet comb with loads of cheap conditioner. Then any adults are removed and you are breaking the cycle.
Just get in the habit of doing it each bath time.
Its easier to prevent than it is to clear up an infestation!
