10 mth old with vomiting bug: b/f him?

Just to see if there's any advice before I go to bed. DS2 has picked up a D&V bug that I had yesterday (took 12hrs for me), and dd1 has got tonight.

DS is 10 months, and hasn't kept anything down since this morning. I'm still b/fing, but have only b/f twice today and it has come straight back within 10 mins.

If he wakes in the night, would it be kinder to his system to just give water, or b/f?

TIA

he will digest some of the breastmilk even if it doesn't stay down, so it will help keep his strength up.

Are you giving him anything besides water and breastmilk? Best to stick to only those two things until he can at least keep them down. Breastmilk usually stays down because the vommitting bug can't eat it, either.

Can you switch to smaller more frequent breastfeeds, maybe?

b/f..esp for the comfort factor ..be ready to cathc the vomit though!!

Would completely agree with flack. We had this during the week with ds and NHS Direct also gave us the same advice. It's great that you are b/feeding and have this option!

I gave him some rice at supper time cos he is perky in himself and seemed hungry, but that's a good point about the breastmilk being more digestible.

I will try the b/f, but take some towels upstairs to bed, in case I see it again

Thanks for the advice

Poor you Just been through this myself. I found it easier to bf ds through the night when he wanted. It did take while before he could keep it down, but I think it's the best thing for them - gentle on the stomach and easily digested. I would agree that small feeds are better if possible. Hope you're all better soon.
