Breathlessness while on period?

Anyone else get this?

I never had it until after having DS but now I can tell I'm due on because I get worn out so easily a few days before and then while I'm on. It's annoying!

Are your periods heavy? Could you be anaemic?

Breathlessness is a sign of anaemia. If you have ever been at altitude, to me it feels just like that.

Sorry - of course that should read that breathlessness can be a sign of anaemia.

CremeDeSudo · 23/08/2015 16:14

Yes they are. Ridiculously so. I've started taking iron tablets actually so that's funny you mentioned it! Thanks for replying Smile Hopefully this'll help then.

Mine are the same -very heavy, and I get very anaemic. Makes you feel dreadful, doesn't it?

But it really shouldn't be like that - maybe get a check over at the docs, and figure out a) why periods are so heavy, and b) get blood tests and strong iron tabs?

JemimaMuddledUp · 23/08/2015 17:32

I do, but it is because I am asthmatic and hormonal changes effect my asthma.

CremeDeSudo · 23/08/2015 20:20

Do you take supplements daily or just when you're on?

I've been anaemic before so have tablets here luckily. I've just had the coil removed and some googling tells me in takes 3-6mths to settle down?

In case anyone else comes across this, the iron seemed to help but I also felt instantly better after finishing my period! Will see how it goes next month Smile

I would ask the GP for a referral to a gynae. The breathlessness can be a result of anaemia.

You need to find the cause of the heavy bleeding as well as treat the symptoms. Fibroids can cause heavy bleeding to arise for instance. Forget googling; seek proper answers instead.

I would not wait another month.
