I am having a gallbladder op on Friday. The scan showed up a polyp, but no stones so general consensus was to whip it out! It is scheduled to be a keyhole procedure. I have had one anaesthetic (after a mmc). It went ok but I've worked myself up into a lather about another one. I'm scared, very scared. Am I being silly??
I'm also due to go back to work ten days after the op. (Teacher) This academic year I am doing a full time job and I'm wondering if I will be able to? It will be all full on immediately!

Hi I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine with the general anaesthetic esp if you've had a previous one. Keyhole gallbladder ops are very quick so I'm sure you'll be in and out in no time.
You should be fine for work in ten days but just see how you go! Good luck

Ihad my gall bladder out 3 weeks ago and was terrified mainly of the ga too. My last one was for a mmc too. I explained to the anathestist that I was terrrified and he was great. Yes I cried like ababy on the way down to theatre but thenurses were lovely. They chatted to me whilst he gave me a sedative first which made me feel woozy and next thing I was waking up in recovery!

Iwas so concerned withthe ga I didnt give much thought to the 'after' and I wont lie for the first couple of days i felt rough and spent most of it in bed. However I bounced back quickly after that and was driving on day 6.

3 weeks on im back to normal bar no heavy lifting.

You will be just fine

Thank you for the swift replies! Yes I have been focusing on the ga more than anything - don't know why? I'm a bit of a control freak, so it is maybe that. There are a myriad of other things I could be anxious about having read the hospital's information leaflet, so I'm not reading it again!! I guess when I initially went to see the GP with a niggling pain, I didn't imagine I would actually end up going under the knife!
Does anyone know if taking a sedative make the recovery harder?

Hi no they usually given you a I've sedative/painkiller in the anaesthetic room before your ga. won't make any difference I shouldn't think!

Sorry IV.... Typo!

Well I had my operation yesterday and it went very well. Apparently my gall bladder was a bit stuck to my stomach but it 'fell out'! I was given a premed whilst waiting to go to theatre and that chilled me out a bit. When I got to the anaesthetic room I wasn't as anxious as I thought I would be. Thank you for reassuring me!
