Chicken Pox - how likely...

How likely is it that DS is going to catch CP? DD came out in spots 3 days ago, so far not a spot in sight on DS. He was sick on Wednesday but perked up after eating his breakfast.

Has anyone had siblings not catch it?
Personally, I reckon he will wait until DD gets better!

my dd2 caught cp...exactly two weeks later dd1 and ds caught them....

ludalightsandlanterns · 23/11/2006 12:24

(my dd2 managed to infect two entire villages!!!....she got them about 2 months ago...children are still comming down with them at the mo!)

kid · 23/11/2006 12:27

work are not being very sympathetic at the mo, they want to know when I will be back.
Apparently, according to them, DS will not necessarily catch them.

I would prefer him to just get them now rather than drag it out a few more weeks!
Fancy infecting that many people

It is very likely he will...its super contagious!!!! Its just a bit hit and miss as to when he'll get them.

DumbledoresGirl · 23/11/2006 12:31

I suppose he won't necessarily catch them to quote your work, but I think it highly likely he will. My ds1 had chicken pox and ds2 and dd both caught it 13 days later. Mind you, none of mine were ill as such and if you can find soeone who doesn't mind keeping your spotty child at home with them for the duration, you might be able to get back to work.

FireFaerie · 23/11/2006 12:31

Chicken pox is doing the rounds in DSs class at the moment. I hope that your DS doesnt do what mine will probably do.. knowing him.. y'know, save them til christmas eve?
Good luck

ludalightsandlanterns · 23/11/2006 12:31

hmm.....we went to Scotland in August...we must of picked it up then without realising it!!!
She is only 15 months..but I have a ds in nursery...and a dd in school...so we infected the toddler group..the nursery and the school!!!!!
(without realising it I hasten to add!!)

kid · 23/11/2006 12:40

They say I'm only allowed 3 days off. I want to check that as someone else said its 10 days per year.
I have had no time off in 7 years, you would think they could be a little bit more understanding

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO KID!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

Hope K is getting better, i would come round later but D is not very well, (bad cough and temperature of 38.7 last night and 38.6 today!), and i'm sure that you wouldn't want your 2 catching whatever he has!

Hope you have a nice trip to Paris

kid · 23/11/2006 17:34

Thanks, I haven't sorted out what I am taking or what is happening to the kids yet!

Kid - have to agree that highly likely no2 will get them too - mine were exactly 14 days apart - with ds it took 8 days to be clear so you could go back to work then but realistically, you will probably be off again pretty soon after that! I presume the nursery won't take them - do you have any alternative carers you can use who have already had the pox (or want to get them - we had a CP party with my ds as everybody wanted it!)
Good luckx

kid · 08/12/2006 14:29

DS got it, at last! I was convinced he had escaped catching it, looks like it can take up to 18 days for spots to appear!

OP posts:
jalopy · 08/12/2006 14:33

Siblings can sometimes escape it but I have read that there is a 90% chance of him catching it.

kid · 10/12/2006 13:35

The pharmacist said it was definately CP, but DS has not developed any more spots. He has 3 and they have all scabbed (they appeared on Friday). So I am assuming its ok for him to return to school already.

Should he go back to school so soon?
Can someone make a decision for me, please?!

Kid, I'd say yes he can go back, and I would have him as a childminder. The 3 year old I look after is coming today and her spots only came out at the weekend. I don't mind as long as she is not miserable, the baby has had the vaccination sso she hopefully won't get it.
