My poor poor DP broke his finger on Saturday night when the sliding door dropped shut on it. It literally 'burst' the finger and severed the bone.
I was panicking in the emergency room saying 'Please - save his finger -He is a surgeon - we have five children'
If it did thid to dp's big manly hand then it would make light work of a childs!

TheHighwayCod · 21/11/2006 18:11

NotAnOtter · 21/11/2006 18:14

its all dressed up so we dont know yet and (typical male) he missed the recall appointment on monday morning - BUT he says he can feel it which is a good sign . It looked awful and i was certain it was a gonner but they seemed optimistic.
There was loads of nasty fat hanging off it - he is as skinny as a rake so that is odd!
Cod - he is a Vet.

It's nearly 'All Creatures Great and Small'!!

SecondhandRose · 21/11/2006 18:26

I've got one but when dd stops the door shutting it usually just bounces back. The door must be faulty, what do you think?

Its not the electric one - just the manual door so once it started ....
The car was also parked on a hill 'ouch'

NotSoupyOhNoNoNoShesOnABreak · 21/11/2006 21:31

Have you written to Chrysler???

hub2dee · 21/11/2006 21:40

What for Soupy ? To say 'my dh closed the door on his finger and it's all your fault' LOL.

Ouch though Nao. Ouch. I hope you got some shots.

NotSoupyOhNoNoNoShesOnABreak · 21/11/2006 21:41

But he didn't close the door on his finger, it started to slide shut and didn't stop, nearly severing the finger! Clearly there's a safety measure missing in the design somewhere.

JanH · 21/11/2006 21:44

But that is what they do - shut when you slam them - like an ordinary door when you slam it, those don't have stops built in either.

Horrid for DP and you, NAO, but nobody should leave fingers in car door openings.

hub2dee · 21/11/2006 21:44

I presume though (perhaps wrongly) that someone hadn't pushed the door far enough 'up the hill' (IYSWIM) that it latched into the open position...

Have I got the wrong end of the stick ?

NotSoupyOhNoNoNoShesOnABreak · 21/11/2006 21:46

My understanding was that he didn't slam it, it started to slide shut and didn't stop but hey, whatever.

JanH · 21/11/2006 21:48

Same thing with a sliding door, soupy.

Our old MPV had a sliding door, and if it wasn't latched open it would slide shut with a vengeance.

hub2dee · 21/11/2006 21:48

No, I'm sure that's what happened Soupy, but it's on wheels (or whatever) and I suppose gravity just did it thing.

On some of the cars with electric sliding doors (like the Citroen C8) they do have finger sensors. I wouldn't like to test them though... and the electric doors do close A LOT slower than manual ones which you can get a lot of momentum.

Fattymumma · 21/11/2006 21:50

i think the door is faulty. my dad has a Grand voyager which i use frequantly and the door shuts automatically but if something is in its way it bounces back open again.

the old one you had to really pull it hard to shut it so unless you slammed it i can't see it doing that much damage.

I owuld take the car to a chrysler dealer and ask them to look at the door as there may be a spring or bolt or somethign thats come loose.

Ouch for your poor hubby. i hope its good news when he goes back to teh hospital

NotAnOtter · 23/11/2006 17:39

it was his fault. He released the door whilst his finger still on side of car. had it been the electric version it would have stopped but the manual ones just slide ( esp when on a hill) yeuch!

OP posts:
hub2dee · 23/11/2006 20:33

Is it looking like they're gonna be able to sort out the tip / rest of finger and he will have many happy years of castrating gerbils ahead of him, NaO ?
