Is she fine now? I assume that she's not had an attak at nursery before if it's freaked them out.

suedonim · 07/05/2004 16:01

Hope she's okay now, Misdee.

she had a small attack at nursery once b4, but apparently it freaked the staff and the other ids out a bit as she just wouldnt stop coughing and couldnt get her breath. They sent the other kids out to play whilst they calmed her down and gave her inhalers, but as they can only give 2 puffs and she wasnt calming down i had to go in. she was fine when i got there, bit tired out but otherwise fine.
She told me on the way home it was the dandelions that make her wheeze and cough.

Hi misdee, sorry to hear this. Why can they only give two puffs? Is it medical advice or just what they do? Would check with doc, don't think nursery should be limiting necessary medicine ? when someone is having an asthma attack they need treatment.

Oh, sorry to hear this Misdee. Is she o.k now ??
Dd2 has asthma but so far has never tested the nerves of the nursery staff, just mine.

Asthma is so common now think nursery really need to get their heads round it. Does your practice have an asthma nurse? Could they put you in touch with one? Just think would be helpful if an asthma nurse could visit nursery and explain how to handle this. What if another child there had asthma and mother wasn't near enough to come in... horrid thought but if child had serious attack nursery need to be able to deal with it and only giving two puffs isn't enough.

i will speak to them about allowing to have more than 2puffs if needed, but usually that is all she needs as her asthma is pretty much under control. remember this is the nursery that wont apply eczema creams. I guess she wont be picking dandelions and blowing the fluff off them now.

I was worried about nursery understanding what to do but the nurse talked me through what to tell them and got them to keep a diary of syptoms and treatmemnt given for a couple of weeks - this seemed to increase their confidence, the nurse had offered to visit if it hadn't worked so I would try approaching one if you have one. For complicated reasons my DS sees consultant at one hospital and paediatric respirotory nurse at another as the nurses at the main hospital say we live too far away.
