Itchy scalp.

My scalp is so itchy it's driving me mad. It's not head lice.
I went to Dr and all he said was it could be an allergy to washing powder or something I've eaten, but I haven't changed, eaten or used anything different. I've had it now for 4 months and it's awful.
I'm taking anti histamines daily but still can't stop scratching..
Has anyone else been affected by this ?
What did you do ?
Any suggestions gratefully received. Sad Sad

I bought a kind of moisturising gel which you massage into your scalp. Seemed to help a bit, especially if you put loads on in the evening and leave it overnight. The brand I used isn't sold in the UK but maybe you can ask at a pharmacy?

Moogoo make a scalp cream which mnetters have had success with. You should prob look into changing shampoos; again, Moogoo's is good (that and Dead Sea Minerals are the only ones that don't make me itch).

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 20/07/2015 20:37

Also a water softener might help.

chocolatespiders · 20/07/2015 20:41

You can grind asprin and put it in the shampoo and wash your scalp with it.
My daughter has a palmers dry scalp spray from superdrug that helps.

marmaladeatkinz · 20/07/2015 20:47

Coal tar shampoo solved this for me.

FabulousFudge · 21/07/2015 00:07

Which water softner would you recommend?

rattymare2335 · 21/07/2015 10:42

I've been using baby shampoo since the itching started, i only condition the ends as it gets too knotted to comb through otherwise. I don't use anything else anymore (mousse or spray) as I was trying to narrow it down and try to find what it was that wasn't agreeing with me.
It's only itchy at the back, lower half of my head.
Out of desperation I've used betnovate steroid cream today, its really greasy but I've tied it up for work.

I forgot to add, there's no flaky or broken skin either.
Which I'm amazed by, because I'm scratching like mad.

I had this. It was terrible. I tried washing my hair with conditioner only. Yes, it sounds weird, but it's a thing, google it, and it helps, cos it's the stuff in shampoo which irritates. AND mine didn't alleviate fully until I bought an attachment to click onto my shower head, which softened the water. I got it from Amazon, and it worked immediately.

I tried everything, but ultimately it was changing the quality of the water I rinsed with that made all the difference.

bluebump · 21/07/2015 10:54

I get this with certain shampoos, my son gets it with baby shampoo.

Belleview · 21/07/2015 11:00

I had it at the back lower half of my head too, btw.

Belleview · 21/07/2015 11:04

It drove me crazy for a long time before I found this. I'm posting a link in case you want to try it. I hope, if you do, that it is the solution for you. Fingers crossed!

Thanks so much for all your kind comments, I'm willing to try anything now.
Although I might add I live in S Wales and our water is excellent, not hard at all.

I had this problem too! It's got better but not completely gone.the steroids the go gave me worked but how long can you realistically use them for? I don't use shampoo any more. I spRay my scalp with Apple cider vinegar, rinse out and then "wash" with conditioner only. Now it's been mentioned I haven't sprayed with vinegar in a few weeks due to being on holiday. Explains why my scalp has been itching like crazy lately.

girlandboy · 22/07/2015 08:56

I had this too. I got a solid shampoo bar from Lush that's for itchy scalps and it worked immediately. It's called Soak and Float, it's a bit whiffy but it's brilliant.

I agree with 'how long can you ...(treat the symptom)'
