What very physical symptoms has stress caused you?

DD 16 has had 9 months of exhaustion and numb arms and legs following anaemia, horrible virus and prolonged GCSE stress.
The fantastic Neurologist has reassured her that all bloods and MRI's are fine and it is likely to be hidden migraines but both she and I have noticed that her symptoms seem to be linked to stressfull events.
Has anyone else found very physical symptoms being brought on by stress?

Oh I do hope your DD is ok. She must feel dreadful but having your support will be of enormous benefit to her. Love and Flowers to you both.

With me the physical things were loss of appetite resulting in very dramatic weight loss, lost 3 stones in 6 weeks (size 8 to a size 4) thankfully i put the weight on again, plus extra!
Insomnia was terrible. No matter hire exhausted I was I just couldn't sleep.
Mood swings.
Nausea.
Headaches that just wouldn't lift.
Breaking into hot & cold sweats.
Bouts of having a very dodgy stomach.
No motivation to get dressed etc.
Skin breaking out in spots & hives.
Vertigo when standing.
Aches & pains all over.

Its horrible. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Aghhhhh Glasgowlass I undoubtably make it worse having had ME for 10 years I totally panic that it is that and when DD says cheerfully "I can't feel anything from the waist down" I want to run round shrieking.
The Neurologist is very reasurring...( to me) that it is not ME or anything more sinister and my mantra at the moment is don't ask because I am aware I will make it worse.
Poor DD is fed up and a bit flummoxed.

Cold sores, usually on the lips but sometimes in my nose and once on my eyelid. Nasty.

Mintyy · 19/07/2015 23:44

Panic attacks.

Twitching eyelid.

Comfort eating.

I also get pompholyx but only in hot weather so haven't associated that with stress before. Interesting.

I always have insomnia, come rain come shine, come good days and bad, whether its hot or cold, whether I have a lot on my mind or nothing much on my mind. Don't think its related to stress in me.

UptobedNOW · 19/07/2015 23:45

Eczema, nausea, upset stomach, cold sores.

Roomba · 19/07/2015 23:53

Eczema, IBS, twitching eyelids, and jaw ache from tooth grinding in my sleep, weight loss (or sometimes weight gain if I comfort eat instead), insomnia, excessive sweating... I sound so attractive!

Hope your DD is okay, OP.

Tight Chest&Throat
Numbness in my hands
Feeling cold
Burning sensation in my upper body&back
Reflux
Nausea/loss of appetite
Insomnia/exhaustion. Spend the day desperate to go to bed, as soon as my head touches that pillow my brain won't stop talking!!
Dissociation
Dizziness and a sensation that I'm falling.
Stress is a fucker!!

dirtyfabulous · 20/07/2015 15:42

Difficulties breathing here, dry mouth, lack of appetite, pounding heart.

Mellifera- does your HVS resolve itself eventually? I feel I've controlled my shallow breathing somewhat but now have a constant urge to take deep breaths. I'm trying not to but its almost impossible.

I hope your daughter takes some comfort in others experiences OP. It is hard to feel like you're not the only one who has such a physical reaction to stress.

Pointlessfan · 20/07/2015 16:41

IBS and tight, painful neck and shoulder muscles. I'm a teacher and I always start the holidays with these symptoms as all the stress and exhaustion leaves my body - this holiday is no exception so far!

amazonqueen · 20/07/2015 16:53

IBs type symptoms - these vary with the stressor though. Can be mild or quite severe.

Lack of sleep. Hard to drop off to sleep and then waking every 30 minutes or so.

Shortness of breath and awareness of this which causes more stress as I dont want to tip over into hyperventilation territory.

Light headedness-bordering on dizzyness .

Twitching eyelid is the most annoying one as that can go on for weeks. I have know it happen in both eyes at once. Now that is annoying.

I try to keep going through all of these though and not let them stop me from enjoying (sometimes through gritted teeth) what Im doing .The symptoms dont always occur during the stressful period.Quite often they appear when the actual stress is over and Im trying to relax.

MadameLeBean · 20/07/2015 20:26

Yes also extreme weight loss here (cannot eat when upset) and aching jaw from tooth grinding / jaw clenching at night .. Yay

stayathomegardener · 20/07/2015 20:45

Thank you so much ALL of you.
DD and I read through it this morning, she found it really helpful and said it how great it is to know she is not alone.
We are going to work through the book mentioned previously on Mindfullness and see how that goes
