Ok, Dh:
age 25, healthy, reasonably fit, Diabetes diagnosed 18 years ago, I'm not 100% sure what quantities he injects.

Some of you are aware, he has these 'convulsions' during the night if his blood sugar drops too low- he is asleep and his body fails to warn him and wake him up in time to intervene.
Well, I had the Paramedic out again on bonfire night to him as I had had a couple or three glasses of wine and couldn't think what to do. He was past being able to drink, his jaw clamped shut anyway, and i chickened out of using the 'jump start' kit as i was a bit pissed.

Thursday night, he sits bolt upright in bed screams out for me to help him, he's going low- cold sweat, look of pure fear all over his face. Get him Lucozade- everything fine.

Saturday night, he starts acting strangely, quite nasty, and I knew what was happening. We did a blood test, he was 1.8 . Sat him down, drank a bottle of Lucozade, blood tested again- 3.8. Ok. Going the right way. Later in the evening, he's off again, acting like a tosser, test him again 1.6- wtf? He had had Lucozade and biscuits so should have been sky high if anything.
To cut a long story short, it was similar last night. Very low, bring the sugar back up only for it to swiftly drop again without him doing anything, just watching TV.

Any ideas what's wrong with him? I'm getting really worried but he is not worried yet. He wants to see how this week goes. Doc told him, if he has Paramedics out again he is likely not to get his drivers licence re-issued when he applies again next year. (He has to re-apply every 3 years) I have had Paramedic out again, but he didn't do any paperwork so his Diabetes Doc won't know.

I know this sounds drastic, but it's what runs through my head every time this happens- We have 2 kids under 2, I need him with me and love him so much, ykwim?

gosh, that sounds terribly worrying for you. Sounds like dh is in denial that there is a problem here. I don't have any advice but will keep this bumped for you.

It's because his job relies on his licence, that's why he wants to wait and see if we can work it out rather than seeing doc. He went straight from school to being an apprentice so only knows one thing.

Sounds like he may need to reduce him insulin. Do you know what kind he's on? I'm on novorapid and levemir

Is he doing too big an injection before he goes to bed? This happens to my mum alot during the summer when she eats more salad & less carbs & forgets to alter her insulin dose accordingly.
Also, has he checked that the insulin he is using is still within its "use by" date?
When they clamp their jaw shut, if you have a kids medicine syringe you can still dribble lucozade in through the side of their mouth. Its not great & can be met with great resistance & is very messy, but usually they manage to swallow some of it.
Can he get an appointment with the diabetic nurse at your GPs or the local hospital?
