I cant quite explain it... my first though was almost a white spirit kind of smell... its like a gentle toxic smell if that makes sense? Hes always had it, but I keep forgetting to ask about it. I presumed it was normal, but, when it gets strong again, its quite odd. Is it normal?

Totally agree LotP. But you can't go through life worrying about these things!! Have recently discovered that my nephew has fredericks ataxia! Very horrible, you wouldn't wish it on anyone!!

And my stepdad has Muscular Dystriophy. How do 2 people wjho are totally non biologically related and yet still very close familally (sp) related get the same type of genetic illness

It could be his tonsils. My dd gets odd smelling breath for about a week before she gets tonsilitis. Its a sort of metallic smell. Have a look to see if they are looking red.

Ds always smelt like this when he was ill..peardrops..didn't have diabetes. Now adolescent, and doesn't smell anything like it now!

I was going to suggest tonsilitis too. DS has had tonsilitis a couple of times and he always gets this beforehand.

GP smelt my breath when i was hospitalised for severe morning sickness. It smelt of nail polish remover - ketones.

Hope ds is ok - certainly worthwhile mentioning to gp.

xx

DH just took him to GP... he said he isnt showing any other symptons, but gave us wee strips to test his wee. He said something about acetone?? No idea what that means...

acetone is the oldfashioned word for ketones. GP has given you strips to test wee for glucose and ketones - this is to look for signs of diabetes. But it doesn't necessarily follow that the cause is diabetes. Test the wee and report back to GP. Have you been told to test at any particular time of day?

no, should I? I have no idea how to do it... I think before his bath I might have to sit him nudey in his bumbo and see what gathers at the bottom, then wash him & the bumbo! Should I be testing while his stomach is at his emptiest? Or first thing in the morning?
