Hi,
My 20mth DS has a spotty red rash all over his face and a few spots on his body. I phoned the doctor ( again- but thats another story) and they said it might be a post viral rash as he has had a cough and cold all week. Has anyone else heard of this or ds or dd had it? They said it should go in 2-3 days, but is there anything i can give him to help?
thanks

Post viral rashes are common in small children. I assume your DS is better now, I mean he is no longer ill, just has a rash? Some viruses that can cause a post illness rash are :
roseola
slapped face flu

but also normal colds can cause a post viral rash in children but wouldn't do in adults.

Is that rash irritating him? Is it itchy?

Yes I have heard of them, my DS gets one after nearly every cold! DH is a GP and reassured me after the first one that it is very common as I had never come across it before but if you are worried you should get him seen. HTH

no the rash doesnt seem to bother him and yes his cough/ cold is better ( in fact hes climbing all over me now!) He just has a rash which looks awful! Do you think he is ok to go to nursery tomorrow( dreadful working mum that i am)

In my opinion he is probably well enough to go to nursery, but I'm not sure what the nursery and other parents would say!

If the rash isn't bothering him then you don't need to put anything on it.

thats what im worried about , im thinkning of putting a post it on his forehead IM OK ITS JUST POST VIRAL He does look like he is highly infectious, mind you that could be useful for getting through the christmas shopping crowds!
