Will an NHS Dentist cap my teeth?

I developed Gum Disease whilw pregnant with dts (apparently caused by a huge hormone inbalance)and my 2 front teeth have coe apart slightly causing a gap, my Dentist was private, so after the essential treatment I needed I stopped going because I could'nt afford it. Now I have anaged to find an NHS dentist and my first appointment is in a couple of weeks, so do you think they would cap teeth or is that classed as purely cosmetic?

If the teeth are structurarily (sp) sound, then no, I doubt it. Closing the gap would be purely cosmetic.

If they are heavily filled, it mihgt be a diff matter.

Oh bugger, no my dentist told me my teeth are fine, og well will have to learn to live with the gap.

My NHS dentist told me he would put veneers on my teeth if I wanted to. I just had to wait until I had the baby, but I could get it done for free.

However, there is nothing wrong with my teeth apart from some discolouration!

Veneers are less harmful than caps (crowns). How are your gums now, do you know if you have much bone damage. Is it worth investigating seeing an orthodontist, taking a picture with you of what you looked like before.

I think I have the gum disease under control now, no more movement of teeth for over a year, but the bone damage is quite bad and on pretty much all my teeth roots, it was happening rapidly during the pregnancy then stopped/slowed down once I had dts, an orthodontist would charge the earth, would'nt they, shame because I would'nt mind having a brace to put my teeth back.

An orthodontist would cost in the region of 2000 - 4000gbp.

Also, if your bone level isn't good they won't concider ortho anyway. The bone is quite likely to be weaker now there has been damage & mobving teeth around within the bone may cause more damage.
