Has anyone used this? It's the only cream my 6 mo ds will tolerate but the leaflet scares the hell out of me. How safe is it?

I was given this to try, but I was 25 at the time. Gave up using it after two applications as it made my skin feel like it was on fire, and everytime my skin came close to something warm it felt like it was burning. However if your son can tolerate it then as long as you've read the leaflet and are aware of the possible side effects I would keep going until your GP says to stop. They have to warn you of every potential problem to legally cover themselves. If you have any questions I would ask your GP as they should be able to tell you how safe it is.

Thank you. Ds seems happy on it, everything else makes him scratch and cry. I've asked my GP and he is happy but it's good to hear the actual expereinces of others.

my DS has had eczema since birth and has been prescribed a long list of steroid creams and the one that does work which was prescribed my a consultant dermatologist is elocon. she told me though to only use it once a week on the scalp and bad patces of eczema as it is quite strong.
its good stuff though.

I use elocon every now and then. It's been marvellous stuff for me!

Thank you. Ds has screamed himself to sleep all week - I use Elocon last night and tonight and he settled straight away this evening. It's definitely the best cream for him, I just hope we don't have to use it too often.

have just seen this thread ! elocon is classed as a ' potent' steroid cream and our dd1 has some for occasional use. What we were advised by the paed was to leave double the number of days between use than the number of days you use it for - so if you use it for 4 days leave at least 8 days until the next application. I think he said use it for a max of 5 days straight then take a break, but this is for a child under 5. Not sure how much you would use it on a baby like yours.TBH I would seek specialist advice as GPs don't know a great deal about eczema IME.
