Finally had my gynae appointment - what a complete waste of time

My only option, as I'm not sure if I've completed my family, is to take hormones. I have painful, heavy periods. I've tried almost every pill under the sun and I can't take anything that has ibuprofen in.

No attempt to establish the cause of the pain - I had an ultrasound a couple of months ago that was clear. She took a history, then spoke to a registrar for about 20 minutes, then reiterated there was nothing she could do. I wasn't even examined. She sent the nurse running after me through the department to come back for an examination, but I was on my way out fgs and the doctor had already said "there's nothing that can be done".

I have a leaflet about the coil.

My other option is to have another baby. She actually said that.

So peed off.

Dihorrea (of the really awful variety) and all consuming nausea: it's ibuprofen-based which has the same effect.

It also spaces me out terribly and I've even felt unable to walk.

Makes me feel lucky, then :)

I honestly wondered about hysterectomy in your case, i mean, it could be a definite solution. I'd try the Mirena coil & a few other things first, though.

I am going to agree with Attila and say endometriosis.

The fact that the ultrasound shows "nothing" means there should be further investigations such as laparoscopy where they put a small nick below your belly button and insert a camera.

Parts of my endo showed up on the ultrasound because I had large cysts on my ovary, so they could see the cyst but the only way to really diagnose endo is with a laparoscopy.

I would contact the hospital mentioned above.

I was fobbed off for years with the whole "some people just have painful periods" crap, then had an amazing female doctor who referred me to an equally amazing gynae.

You don't have to live with the pain, take control and do not take no for an answer. Flowers
